Zipcar just emailed us about their activities and festivities planned for this Saturday. The day begins with do-gooding: after assembling at Cal Anderson Park at 12:30 p.m., they're going to pick up litter on East Pine Street from 1-3. Then it's back to the park for the rest of the "Sounds Outside" concert, complete with Zipcar picnic snacks, park games, and special treats like driving credit for all members. (As per usual, if you recruit someone impressionable to the Zipcar agenda, you get extra credit.) If you want to help out, RSVP to cleanseattle (at) zipcar.com. Here's the full Sounds Outside lineup: 1:00 p.m. Figeater; 2:30 p.m. Industrial Jazz Group; 4:00 p.m. Greg Sinibaldi; 5:30 p.m. Syncopated Taint Horn Quartet; 7:00 p.m. Bert Wilson.
Zip Over to Cal Anderson Park on Saturday
Can't Miss It: Thursday
ZIPCAR OPEN HOUSE: Drop in at the grand opening of an actual downtown office for Zipcar--in the old Dept. of Licensing location at 3rd and Union. The open house runs until 5 p.m., and if you stop in and join Zipcar today, there's no annual fee for your first year. We're told there's also a prize wheel where you can win driving credits and other goodies, plus free snacks. We use the Zipcar ourselves, and we're happy to hear that the City of Seattle is joining them in a car-sharing arrangement for city employees.
Washington Is Beautiful Webcam Country
We were just...okay, goofing off best describes it...visiting this mountain and river webcam site when we came across this view from Hurricane Ridge. Hard to believe it's from a webcam. Gorgeous.
Zipcar Wants to Meet Your Friends
Zipcar is doing a December membership drive, and offering $75 in driving credit to existing members who (successfully) refer their friends. In honor of the season, you have the choice of keeping the credit for yourself, splitting it 50/50 with your new-member friend, or giving them all of it. We are not power users of the car-by-the-hour service, but there are times when it is the perfect thing.
Just What South Lake Union Needs—Flex Scooters
With all the construction, trolley tracks, and "Motorcycles Use Extreme Caution" signs around South Lake Union, this sounds like an accident (or numerous accidents) in the making. "Scoot About" is looking to become the ZipCar of the scooter market in South Lake Union.
Metro Eyes Fair Increase
Seattlest is grateful for our bus pass and our Zipcar membership. Paying more than $4 a gallon just doesn't sound enticing for us, but we're not surprised when we hear about rate increases and other ancillary fees (like having to pay for our baggage when we fly) being passed onto us for using public transportation.
