Next Wednesday night San Francisco's Magic Bullets make a stop in Seattle at the High Dive. They've been touring the West Coast in support of their debut album, the awkwardly titled a CHILD but in life yet a DOCTOR in love, out earlier this year from Words on Music. The San Francisco Chronicle aptly summarized the music of Magic Bullets as drawing from "the emotional candor and jerky rhythms of the '80s post-punk era to carve a wistful but upbeat niche for itself in San Francisco's indie-pop scene." Which can be translated as: they catchy. For proof, check out the above video, Magic Bullets' cover of "I Could Be Happy" by Scottish new wave band Altered Images.
While you are now officially unable to see Hootie and the Blowfish this weekend in Roslyn, WA (get well soon, Hoots), next week offers a great show at the High Dive. CALL 911!: Political and economic commentator and White House strategist during the Nixon administration, Kevin Phillips talks about his book, American Theocracy: The Peril and Politics of Radical Religion, Oil, and Borrowed Money in the 21st Century. Phillips traces the set of related causes that caused the downfall of historical world powers. That same combination of ills he says -- global over-reach, militant religion, resource problems, and ballooning debt -- is at work in the U.S. today.

--Putting random stuff in brackets and voting on it is all the rage. First the blog thing, and now gay clubs go head to head. Stay tuned next week when Seattlest pits our socks against each other in a bracket from hell.
Oh Boston, you silly over-reacting bunch of Nancys. Who can't tell the difference between a LiteBrite and a real bomb? Seriously, getting riled up and freaking the fuck out over some strange marketing thingies?

The occasional road trip is fun. Finding a reason to go somewhere (or not), and enjoying a short time away from home helps to keep a fresh perspective. Sure, you miss some familiar things for a short time, but you know they'll be there when you get back. And some things are definitely trip-worthy when there's no Seattle equivalent.
