Can't Miss It: Weekend Edition, April 10-12

MORE HORNS: If there's one motto consistent through the years of this Seattlest's life, it's "More horns!" It's similar to "More Cowbell," but inclusive of such excellent instruments as the trumpet, the french horn, the tuba, and--our favorite--the trombone. That's why we're recommending you attend HonkFest West this weekend, a three-day event in Ballard and Georgetown dedicated to horns and drums. See the schedule here.

Can't Miss It: Thursday

WTF, HISTORY?: It was George Santayana, if we recall, who issued the famous dictum about people who don't learn from history having to re-take it or something...honestly we weren't paying attention and apparently neither was anyone else, which is sort of the subject of historian Roger van Oosten's talk tonight at MOHAI: what are the differences and similarities between today and the Great Depression. And he should know, 'cause unlike all the journalists with their accursed similes, he actually studies the '30s and is a recognized expert on WPA art.

Stalk Of The Town

It's been a long time since Kim had a tourist to show around, so she's looking forward to giving her father a stellar tour of Seattle and its environs. On the agenda: Chateau Ste. Michelle, Bainbridge Island, the Fremont troll, and plenty of great food--finally an excuse to go to the Kingfish! Before pops arrives, she'll kick the weekend off right, with Sera Cahoone and Zoe Muth tonight at the Tractor.

She may still have far too much work to do this weekend, but Kim will emerge from her cocoon for two very important shows. Tonight, it's Sera Cahoone at a secret, undisclosed location and Kim refuses to spill the beans. Continuing the vaguely country theme, she'll end the weekend Sunday night at Chop Suey with the lovely and talented Star Anna.
