Local chefs know how to throw a party, especially when it involves supporting causes near and dear to their hearts, so head on down to Rays and Dragonfish this week. Learn more about how to grow an urban garden at one of the hippest spots in Ballard. Plus an opportunity to meet what some jokingly call the food elite of Seattle at Foodportunity. We at Seattlest appreciate events to learn, meet new people and imbibe in a little food/drink.
Food Frenzy: Garden Tours, Benefits and Food-Center Networking
Food Frenzy: Whiskey, Bake it in a Cake & Grow A Farmer
It's almost impossible to keep a pulse on the plethora of food related events and happenings in Seattle. Seattlest weeds through the multitude of options and brings YOU the cream of the crop in our weekly column, Food Frenzy. We've got the beat on special restaurant events, booze-related happenings, cooking classes and basically anything food-related because what's not love about eating and drinking in our city?
Countdown to 2011: Sarah L's Top 10 Drinks of 2010
Drinking is the best. If your 2010 was like mine, you drank a lot of things. Between unpaid internships (free coffee and free booze is THE ONLY WAY YOU GET PAID) living with the folks for a while (mmm neverending fridge full of beer), finally getting a grownup job (YAY, now I can afford my own drinks, sort of) and writing for such fine publications of Seattlest, one ends up drinking a whole lot of things. In no particular order, here are ten of the best of those things:
Neighborhood News And Local Blog Round-Up
- West Seattle Blog is hot on the story of illegal clam diggers along Beach Drive who were caught earlier today with over 100 clams.
- UW President Emmert put his foot down, denying the request of the Students for Civic Engagement on Homelessness to bring Tent City 3 on to the University of Washington campus.
Can't Miss It: Weekend Edition, April 10-12
MORE HORNS: If there's one motto consistent through the years of this Seattlest's life, it's "More horns!" It's similar to "More Cowbell," but inclusive of such excellent instruments as the trumpet, the french horn, the tuba, and--our favorite--the trombone. That's why we're recommending you attend HonkFest West this weekend, a three-day event in Ballard and Georgetown dedicated to horns and drums. See the schedule here.
Cupcakes, Whiskey, Maple...'nuff sed
We are obsessed with effete pastries in this town. We've always been aware of the bias against Big Donuts, which is why we still have yet to see the return of industrially produced Dunkin' Donuts or the metric invasion of socialized Tim Horton's around here. We run strong opinions that illuminate partisan allegiances, flawed methodologies notwithstanding—c'mon, guys, It's the right tool for the right job...you can't meaningfully compare the two directly.
Booze In, Coffee Out As Affordable Luxury Of Choice
Starbucks may be having difficulties, but the liquor industry is doing just fine, thank you very much. Washington state liquor sales are up five percent this year, a statistic owed (we suspect) in large part to the contributions of all the laid-off Starbucks employees. After all, a latte may wake you up, but a whiskey-laced latte will wake you up to a world much softer than the world in which you fell asleep. Perhaps it's time to stimulate the economy by buying stock in Grey Goose. We would never suggest partaking in illegal activities, but we're certain now would be a lucrative time to get busy making moonshine. You could peddle it right outside Starbucks Corporate! (There are rumors of fast-approaching Microsoft lay-offs, too...supply and demand, people.)
Seattlest Happy Hour in Photos
When drinking heavily in the afternoon with co-workers, it is always a good idea to bring your camera. That way the fuzzy details are there at least semi in-focus in the morning, and you yourself are in none of the photos! So come drink a few with us and play paparazzi at the next Seattlest Happy Hour at Moe Bar on October 20th.
Come Drink With Us!
Come join us and help us christen the now-monthly Seattlest Happy Hour the way things ought to be christened: by cracking open alcoholic beverages. We're there already and we'll be there til 8 p.m....what are you waiting for?
