Wheeled Victory: A Washingtonian Win at the Tour de France

So, yesterday was the Fourth of July. Americans from all over engaged in age-old independence celebration practices like grilling meat, risking loss of limb over fireworks in the driveway and dressing in combinations of red, white and blue. One American, however, opted to do something entirely original. more ›

Jesus Injured Near Leavenworth

Former Christ Jim Caviezel received minor injuries yesterday after being thrown from his motorcycle on I-97, all because some guy tossed a bicycle into his path. Caviezel was taken to Cascade Medical Center for treatment of cuts and bruises and was later released (thank God for his helmet). Washington State Troopers plan to forward their investigation to the Chelan County prosecutor's office for possible assault and reckless endangerment charges against a 42-year-old Wenatchee man, identified as David Nelson. There's no indication why Nelson threw the bike into the path of Caviezel's 2006 Harley Davidson, especially since it's common knowledge that nobody fucks with the Jesus. more ›

Amtrak's Fall Fare Sale Ends this Friday

Amtrak has some good prices going fast for its fall fare sale. You have to order your tickets by Friday, August 8, and you can get to such exotic locales as Wenatchee ($19), Spokane ($37), and Portland ($24). Still, $48 r/t to Portland is not bad, though we advise you to invest the savings in business class, or, if you decide to stick it out in coach, a beer helmet. more ›

Governor Gregoire Declares a State of Emergency

Fires are being battled in Chelan, Douglas, Stevens, Adams, Ferry, Okanogon, and Spokane counties. The Spokane Valley fire has already destroyed 13 homes and has consumed over 1200 acres since it started. A fire outside of Wenatchee has already burned more than 12 and a half square miles, and with high wind and hot temperatures, the fire danger is only increasing. Mandatory evacuations have been declared in several hotspots throughout the state. The state of emergency will remain in place until Governor Gregoire rescinds it and the fires have been controlled. more ›

Tyler Farrar, Speed Bike Racer

So while Tyler Farrar was in town the other week, we fired off some email questions for him. Actually we were supposed to meet him at Joe Bar and show off our 1970s Sears 3-speed which he would have drooled over, but there were schedule complications. Anyway, for those of you not in the know, Tyler Farrar is a) a Seattle resident and Wenatchee native, b) almost 24, 6', 164 lbs., and c) on the U.S. Team in the Tour de France this year. He's fast, baby. more ›
