Dead Viaduct Walking
The bored tunnel option just got a big wet kiss from the Senate, though its House reception will not be so warm. Still, the clock's ticking and WSDOT, King County, and the City of Seattle are inviting you on a free short walking tour of the viaduct on Saturday, March 21, while the structure is closed to traffic for an inspection.
Seattlest Walks to Fremont From the Hill
Yesterday, faced with a rare workday afternoon with not much to do, Seattlest decided to go for a long walk. Our initial goal was to make it to Golden Gardens in time for sunset, followed by happy hour at Ray's. We knew that was kind of a pipe dream because it was 2:30 by the time we got this crazy idea, and we live on First Hill. Instead, we decided to aim for Golden Gardens and just see how far we could get, figuring Gasworks Park was maybe more realistic.
Try and Sink Now, Viaduct
When we did our walking tour of the Viaduct last year the engineers in charge managed to convince us that the millimeters-a-month descent of the Viaduct--as portrayed on these little plastic doo-dads--was positively a free-fall. And it was very convincing. We walked off the elevated roadway with our stomachs planted somewhere in our throats and vowed to never walk under that segment of the Viaduct ever again, a plan which has been enforced by chain link fences and a busy construction site ever since. Today, due to some particularly incessant jack-hammering, probably, we inspected the shoring-up work for the first time...
