Flash mobs dancing to "Beat It" in honor of Michael Jackson's August 29 birthday. Jackson would have been 51. At Kerry Park, Pioneer Square, and Pike Place Market:

Remember Pearl Jam? They were in Singles, too. That's probably why Cameron Crowe directed the video of "The Fixer." Glory days, huh, Cameron?

Episode 3 of this season of America's Best Dance Crew was on last night, and this week's challenge was to incorporate martial arts moves into each crew's dance routine. Local b-boys Massive Monkees drew extreme martial arts, a "rapid-fire, acrobatic style of martial art," as opposed to all those slow-moving, really clumsy forms.

On last night's episode of America's Best Dance Crew, Beyonce was there via video to assign each team a song and challenge for their performance. For local crew Massive Monkees, the song was "Work It Out" featuring the use of hula hoops.

Oh, hello America's Best Dance Crew. We're pretty sure we've never watched an entire episode of this MTV "dance" show--that's in quotes because out of the hourlong show, total time devoted to dancing seems to be somewhere around the seven-minute mark. But this season, local breakdancers Massive Monkees are hoping to be the fourth-straight ABDC champions to hail from the West Coast, so we suppose we should say something about it.

Vendr.tv specializes in "curbside cuisine," so while they were in town recently they popped by Neapolitan-style cart pizzeria Veraci Pizza. "There's sausage and there's pepperoni." But you Yelpers already knew that Veraci has it goin' on.

Tres Tristes Tigres Serves Up Three Smart Solo Shows

Trinidad Martínez is co-founder of the Magpai Production Group--straight outta Hamburg--and is in the U.S. on a Fullbright. She collaborated with each of the solo performers of Tres Tristes Tigres: Emma Klein, Dayton Allemann, and Jonas Radvik. She's also likely to be the one taking your tickets and offering you a glass of water. But the fringe-theater, many-hats staffing aside, the work you see rivals OtB in its commitment--and shows off Dani Prados' lighting and technical design chops.

It seems almost too perfect that technology is what ultimately derailed our interview with the famously technologically-wary Jason Lytle. With nothing but spotty cell phone reception as he traveled through Wyoming, the former frontman of Grandaddy was unable to find a signal that would last long enough to allow for a successful interview.

Let's see more dresses and cardigans on the Monorail, please. At 1:46, the 1962 promo is just shy of a real-time Monorail trip. We were curious how the Monorail looked brand new (not that different)--sure, it's a little older, but it's the people who have changed. For fun, compare with this 2007 Monorail ride, which offers the jerky, handheld-cam impression that the train is about to lurch from the tracks and crush everyone below.

Twitterer columbiacity brought this parkour YouTube video--shot one-handed in and around Seattle--to our attention, and we say thanks. It's an amazing amount of fun to watch this guy go. And Slate claims no one wants to advertise on YouTube's user-generated content. We just want more of this, less baby vomit.

AP photographer/videographer Ted Warren noticed we posted a video of the Woodland Park Zoo's new penguins yesterday and sent us this video to check out, featuring the Humboldt penguins and narration by the Zoo's penguin profiler Celine Pardo. It's an informative--and splashy--two minutes!

Above you can see the Woodland Park Zoo's Humboldt penguins in their new, quasi-natural environment. The exhibit opens to the public on Saturday, May 2, so you have to content yourself with video for a little while yet. The Zoo tells us "the penguins, 10 males and 10 females, arrived three weeks ago from five other zoos and aquariums," and were put in quarantine. They range in ages from one to twenty years old, and you can adopt a penguin for just $50, though confidentially we hear you probably want to avoid the teenagers.

They Live! is Gatsby from Cancer Rising and DJ Bles One from Mash Hall. Not coincidentally, They Live! is also the bomb. We can vouch for that, having listened a large number of times to the first, sixteen minute episode of the absurdly good, theatrical, hilarious piece of hiphop they're calling the Dro Bots Saga. We've also gone completely bonkers along with the rest of the crowd during their rare live performances. Needless to say, Episode 1 of the Dro Bots Saga is mandatory downloading (here). Our favorite song from that installment is "Weed Murder," which has been getting some play on KEXP; now, there's a snazzy video to go along with the track. View now and become cooler by doing so:

KING 5's SkyKING chopper was out over the Puget Sound today, getting footage of about 40 orcas swimming the frigid waters. Whale researchers "believe the L and K pods are cruising through, possibly in search of Chinook or Coho." Guess they finished up with Bo Derek's leg years ago.

Seattlest Alumnus Dave Epstein has some advice for Tony Hawk, get a lawyer.

We link to Capitol Hill Seattle content frequently in the Neighborhood News round-ups, but the latest installment of CHS-V, a short video about the election and "hope art" on the Hill, is too excellent not to embed directly. The short features nicely edited interviews with Stranger art critic Jen Graves and Obama garage door muralist Shelley Farnham, among other articulate voices. Enjoy. We're faxing 2,009 kudos to videographer David "Cheesecake" Albright and one of our favorite neighborhood blogs for this post.

Chamber music. Even the name loses you, doesn't it? Music for chambers? Why, it makes no sense! That said, Seattle is rich in terrific musicians who like to play music in small groups. The naming problem isn't really their fault, but it's hard to get people to try them out in a concert hall. Even classical music lovers feel like they get more music, on a per musician basis, at a symphony performance. It's simple economics.

According to this visualization of the tunnel viaduct replacement option, downtown is about to get very, very clean.

Inspired by the Weekly trolling YouTube looking for video of transformers blowing, we offer you this 23-second clip with not one but two surprise explosions. Our dream would have been to embed this Almost Live! classic on Northwest weather predictions, too, but we can't. So we'll have to tempt you with the "snow mixed with cheese" line to get you to click on the link.

Dawdy tipped us off about the snowball throw-down on 15th Avenue East on Saturday night--it was Liberty vs. Smith denizens and it...was ugly. Especially for cars trying to thread their way between the opposing parties. There's also an escape attempt on skis that goes horribly wrong. Once again we repeat: the streets aren't safe in this condition. Better to stay inside.

Other blogs' editors probably don't volunteer to get on one of those round, can't-steer-'em sleds and head down the steepest part of East Aloha on Capitol Hill. Well, except for CHS's Justin, who starts out just ahead of us, to the right and then laughs at our woefully second-place finish. It's a dizzying ride. Hope you enjoy it.

Last night's shooting of an 18-year-old man outside of the Garfield Community Center was the first news item in Seattlest Abbey's local blog round-up this morning, and we received concerned emails about it overnight. We still haven't seen any official word that this is a gang-related shooting, but it is perhaps ironic that it happened on the same day that local law enforcement announced a renewed commitment to combating street violence. Seattle 911 has an interesting video with responses to last night's crime from the community center staff and the cops, below.

We just spotted this clip on YouTube. Bill Shatner was heading to Microsoft to visit some "Star Trek geeks" and he decided to stop off at Pike Place Market downtown. Immediately the free sample people descend upon him. No wonder he's pushing portly. He also buys some nuts. UPDATE: They've set the video to private, even on The Shatner Project. Not sure what the deal is. Thank god I described it in detail for everyone. I know, it's like you were there.

Tonight: the Wu-Tang Clan and Fatal Lucciauno are throwing down at the Showbox SoDo. The Wu speaks for itself (hello), but Fatal is a Seattle rapper you need to know about. It might be too late to change your plans and get to this show. It's never too late to watch this video, though.

The new video from San Francisco band Birdmonster showed up in our inbox this morning. "Born To Be Your Man" is off their latest album From the Mountain to the Sea, and the video was directed by local photographer/filmmaker Matt Daniels of Think Lab. The info on the band's imeem page claims that the clip was "shot in the lush woods just outside of Seattle," but we can't exactly place the scenery. Anyone have a clue where this video takes place? Some beach?

Mog, a pretty cool music site (tagline: "Because The Web Mostly Sucks"), posted a cute video interview with guitar player/producer Chris Walla and drummer Jason McGerr of Death Cab For Cutie. They talk about lots of things, including music (shocking), and there are plenty of dramatic shots of the guys' fidgeting hands. It's just...cute. They're still our Seattle boys at heart!

The news about this morning's fire just got grimmer: the P-I reports an elderly man, the last tenant of the apartment building scheduled for destruction, has died before he could even make it to the hospital. The man, in his 80s, was supposed to move out today or face eviction. KING 5 has video of the fire, and a quote from Dennis Saxman, development gadfly, about the victim: "He was having a hard time letting go."

How many bowls of clam chowder could a $1,000 Ivar's gift card buy? If you become the next Ivar's Clam Star, you could find out--and you'll also receive a Clammy Award trophy, along with a possible ringtone deal. Let Seattlest repeat that, Biden-style: ringtone. All you have to do is recreate one of Ivar Haglund's ballads on video and be creative about it. Dear God, do local musicians realize the potential for ironic hilarity here? Deadline's October 27th--get cracking!
