Here. The U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation (that's a weird combination, isn't it?) is talking to Gary Locke right now as part of his confirmation process to become Commerce Secretary. If you have nothing else to do, this seems like a fun way to kill an hour with your morning coffee.

Yesterday, the Senate approved a bill that could create the first new wilderness area in Washington state in over 20 years. The Wild Sky Wilderness Area would include 167 square miles in the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest north of Sultan, Wash and would permanently protect 106,000 acres of wilderness.

There are many ways for a candidate to see their name in the press. Admit you're a drunk driver, get booed at your own rally, never actually vote in an election, or just get tossed in the old gray bar hotel. Green Party candidate Aaron Dixon has opted for the last two.

There is kind of a lull in local politics right now. Cantwell is showing all those Ballard hippies that she has the guts to take on Enron, McGavick is raising oil money, and Mayor Nickels is getting yelled at by dog owners.
