Gutenberg, Johann. "German printer born around the year 1400. Detailed records of his life and work are scant." Or so the audience is told by the fictional playwrights Doug Simon and Bud Davenport, based on their internet research. With what little info they do know about the inventor of the printing press, the fictional friends write and compose Gutenberg! The Musical! (through May 17th at ArtsWest, Wed.-Sat., 7:30 p.m., Sun., 3 p.m. [no show on Mother’s Day, May 10] tix $32, $10 under 25), filling in the missing details of his life with what they charitably call "historical fiction." Scott Brown and Anthony King originally developed the show in 2005 at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York City.

Bumbershoot Sans Music
Man, is there a LOT of Bumbershoot stuff on Seattlest right now. If you're anything like Editor Dan you're hoping for a break in the Bumber action; a contributor's recounting of a trip to Lake Chelan, a reaction to a dunderheaded Seattle Times editorial, or even some lame PR survey naming Seattle 16th Most Fashionable City West of the Rockies. Anything! Well, you can hope for something different, but your hopes will be dashed because this is another Bumbershoot post.
Sunday Bumbershootin'
Our day started early at the KEXP Backyard stage where the Mountlake Terrace trio, Mon Frere, woke us up, got us moving, fed us our delicious brunch of new wave keyboard and guitar anthems. We headed straight there – hadn’t even had our coffee yet, still a bit bleary-eyed from the night before. But this seemed the way to go. Jump right in. Don’t tip-toe into the lake like a pussy. Just get in there. It’s the best way.
Asssscat will be the Funniest Thing at Bumbershoot
When we lived in Los Angeles, we would spend our Saturday evenings in a small theatre watching two shows of "Beer, Shark, Mice" with, among others, the janitor on Scrubs and Champ Kind. Yeah, that show was really funny, but nothing compared to what would follow—Asssscat. We'll say it again because we don’t even give a flying fudge, Asssscat.
Bumbershoot: pre-game show
Well kids, the arts and music orgy that is Bumbershoot is fast approaching and the Seattlest staff will be taking it on with beligerent dedication.
Seattlest Interview: Dusty Warren
With SketchFest Seattle chugging into its final weekend, we had a sit-down with Dusty Warren. Seattlest figured he'd be a good guy to talk to, as he's been performing sketch comedy in Seattle since 2000 and is a member of two groups performing this weekend. First there's Flaming Box of Stuff---they just returned from New York where they were a part of a HBO showcase at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre---and then there's the two-man group Champagne.
