YOUNG BLACK CULTURE: Studies claim that African-American male culture has continued to decline despite generally strong national economic growth. We hate to use such a cliché for a post title, but in this case it's actually true. Seattlest had an opportunity to check out the children's improv show Hogwash this weekend, and despite worries that it would provide nothing but boredom for us (we're happily childless), we were suprised at how entertaining the production actually was, and would heartily recommend it for you Seattlest readers out there with little ones in tow.

Asia Argento has got her father's knack for horror. Sure, there are no limbs being severed as someone falls through broken glass, but the domestic horrors depicted in "The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things" are on par with the finest of her father's work. The film tells the story of Jeremiah. Raised by foster parents until the age of 7. Reclaimed by his abusive, alcoholic mother. Raped by her boyfriend. Abandoned by his mother. Claimed by his abusive, Christian grandparents.

Comic book fans from around the world woke up today to breaking news of an imminent re-match between award-winning Canadian cartoonist Seth (aka Gregory Gallant) and local comic book publisher and Comics Journal executive editor Gary Groth. Their previous battle from the late '90s left many spectators wondering if another round of their incendiary exchanges would incite Groth's well-documented flair for explosives and firearms, provoking Mr. '30s Fetish to respond in kind.

Earlier this week, Seattlest found ourselves taking part in an activity we hadn't done in a while: sorting through the wares of thrift stores on The Ave. Lately, we've been kinda feening for some end-of-summer sunglasses and shoes (always shoes), so we focused our efforts in those areas. Here's a quick review of our experiences at two local thrift faves---

Eric Bogosian is a jack of all trades. That's the feeling we get from taking a gander at his IMDB profile and his website's biography/list of works. Ah, but who the f*** is Eric Bogosian anyways? Good question, albeit one that has already been asked elsewhere. He's a playwright, having authored five full-length plays and six full-length solo works, as well as an actor and a screenwriter. In fact, he adapted his two best known plays, Talk Radio and SubUrbia, for the screen---films that were directed by Oliver Stone and Richard Linklater, respectively. Not bad, Bogosian.
