We all know that vampires don’t age, but us mere mortals sure do - and Bella is one of us (at least for now). So every year around the second weekend of September, the town of Forks, WA (where the action in Twilight is mainly set) rolls out a big ol’ cake and puts on a three-day bash to celebrate Bella’s birthday.

Tuesday Morning Headlines
Your Tuesday Morning Headlines live in a cold world, the kind where accused killers ask for permission to question themselves and vampire meccas are destroyed. Also, just cold, you know?
Senator Jeanne Kohl-Welles: For Team “Twilight”
A few days ago we told you all about the importance of renewing the Motion Pictures Competitiveness Program for Washington State. Bills have been presented to the House (HR 1554) and Senate (SB 5539). Our support for continuing to financially encourage local film and commercial productions has been made obvious; creative jobs for locals, revenue for the city and state and enhanced culture are all aspects we’ve voiced as reasons to support these proposals. And now State Senator Jeanne Kohl-Welles is offering another—possibly more compelling, certainly more sparkly—argument: “Our vampires should stay in Washington State.”
Twilight and Harry Potter: Shaping Our Local News
It's been a busy news cycle for those of us who secretly indulge in tweenage books about werewolves, wizardry and other fantastical pursuits.
A weekend of Twilight
Today hundreds of fans will converge downtown to take part in the second of a three-day Official Twilight Convention. This morning is appropriately foggy, as the air is seemingly beckoning cast members to emerge and speak on the Twilight stage -- braving possible stage stormers, get one on one with photo ops ($30-$65), tell tales of the Red Carpet in a panel discussion, and sign autographs ($30). There will be vendors, short films, an auction, and tonight’s main event ($99) the Saturday Night Volturi Vampire Ball. Today’s special guests include characters Felix, Demetri, Sam Uley, and other (potentially shirtless?) cast members. The phenomenon has long taken over the entire country, but this three-day event will capture as much of the craze in one place at it possibly can.
On Twilight Cocktails
Far be it from us to say that the Twilight franchise of books and movies is bad--they're super-entertaining and enjoyable. We just think Twilight is wrong about two things: Forks, Washington, and vampires.
It's Official: We Will Never Visit Forks
Because we don't want to deal with all the Twilight freaks who have made the tiny town a vampire nerd mecca. Look, we're not sure whether to pity Forks residents for having to put up with this bullshit or envy their ingenuity in coming up with new and exciting ways to steal these idiots' money during tough economic times.
Kids Debate Juvenile Fiction's Darker Side
First of all, let Seattlest be clear up front: we have almost zero respect for Stephanie Meyer's Twilight series. Poorly written, dumb story line, not worth our time. Harry Potter, on the other hand, we loved. A group of opinionated kids at the Seattle Public Library debated the merits of the two series yesterday, and here's the video. Attention, kids: read a lot, frequently, and continue to hone your debate skills--they'll serve you in good stead in MySpace chat rooms for the rest of your lives.
