For years Wallingford residents have discussed what the old Safeway at Stone Way and 40th was going to become. We always suspected something as interesting as another grocery store, but when a hole was dug for a foundation recently, it became obvious that the site was being prepared for the Trump Tower of grocery stores. Condos on top of a QFC, it was determined, with maybe 30 stories of office space above that and underground parking. Wrong! The truth has now surfaced and the site of the old Wallingford Safeway will now live on as...a giant hole! QFC has determined that it's too expensive to do what they planned to do when they started digging the hole, so a hole it's going to stay until such time as someone buys the hole from them, construction prices come down, or that retaining wall gives way in a good storm some night.

We here in the Ist-A-Verse know that we're sensational, but it's very rare that we get a chance to be sensationalistic. This week, we've decided to have ourselves a little fun and try our hand at tacky tabloid headlines, using nothing more than our favorite posts from this week.

As a part of its advertising campaign for the company's new Office Accounting Express application, Microsoft is hosting a technology startup company competition reminiscent of TV's Apprentice and World's Best Inventor (or whatever that show was called). Once a winning startup is selected and their market has been proven, Microsoft will release something very similar but uglier, cheaper and with DRM and drive the startup out of business. We kid, Microsoft! It comes from a place of love! The winning startup actually gets $100,000 in seed money and a Manhattan store-front for a year.

After the heartbreak of Willard's premature ejection from Survivor, we were primed and ready for Seattle's Alex to continue his quiet rise to power on The Apprentice.

Seattle's own Alex continued his run of inoffensive niceness (aka flying under the radar) on The Apprentice last night, thus staying alive for another week.
