Can't Miss It: Tuesday

LOVE SEATTLEST? Of course you do! Why else would you be reading this? And if you love Seattlest, you must love liquor and Seattlest writers, and you should therefore attend Seattlest Happy Hour at The Lookout. We'll brook no counterarguments. 5-8 p.m. // The Lookout // 757 Bellevue Ave. E // drink specials: $4 wells, $3 microbrews, and $4 wine

GET SMARTIE: So you think you're a smartypants, eh? And you want to see that smartypants professor in the white house? Then you're in luck! Go use your brain for Obama tonight, and participate in a trivia night fundraiser at the Hi-Life in Ballard. The entry fee is a bit high for trivia night at a bar, but excessively low for a political fundraiser. Just think of how those Eastsiders paid $1k/plate when Cindy McCain was in town, and the $20 you drop for trivia will seem like chump change. UPDATE: Smarties for Obama is sold out. Sorry, but also...awesome!

Seattlest Trivia draws Seattle's sharpest teams, but we're still sometimes dazzled by the breadth of your knowledge. On July 1, teams averaged over 6 points on 7 of 8 rounds (brush up on Fictional Plants), including a very strong performance (6.94 points!) on Britney Spears. In the end, Reichert Did It squeaked out a half-point victory over Steve Pool Party in My Pants (70 to 69.5), thanks in part to a misremembered Die Hard title. Other rounds: Geography, God Bless the USA, Triangulation, Movies, and an audio round on bands that sold out. Congrats to the winners, and we'll see you again August 12.

STEP UP YOUR BRUNCH GAME: Brunch for Seattlest usually means stumbling to the closest eggs-and-bacon joint, slamming some coffee, and thanking God we didn't have to put on real clothes for the occasion. But we will make an exception and actually dress up (ish) for a fancy weekend brunch, now offered at the Saint, if only for the opportunity to taste Tecate-marinated Carne con Huevos (yum) and sip on a house mimosa. The Saint's from the classy people at Havana, so we're sure brunch here will wake you up and calm you down in style.

After winning $3,022,700 from Jeopardy!, Ken Jennings could've retired to a Seattle suburb to roll around in piles of dollar bills. Instead, he became America's answer to Ben Schott, wroting about trivia: a book its history, a regular column in Mental_Floss, a popular weekly trivia quiz, and most recently a hu-frickin'-mungous collection of questions, the Trivia Almanac.

Cooper's quiz is scheduled for 8:45 Tuesday nights, though last night's kicked off at 9:00. It's 40 questions, uncategorized. Teams trade answer sheets for scoring. After about 15-20 minutes the host announces results. That's a longish delay, but it's a well-paced quiz overall.

Three short weeks ago, it was Seattlest trivia night. Tonight, we're back, hosting the pub quiz at the Old Pequliar in Ballard.

The quick answer: there is still Seattlest Trivia at the Old Pequliar. But now it only comes around every five weeks or so.

We remember the winner: Equal Time for Chocolate Buddha. They won $110.

It's Tuesday once again, which means it's Seattlest Trivia Night at the Old Pequliar in Ballard.

The days are getting longer, and a smidge warmer, so come celebrate indoors at the Old Pequliar in Ballard.

Since tonight's American Idol is a rerun (or will be one day) why not come on over to the Old Pequilar in Ballard and match wits with some of Seattle's best trivia teams.

A good rule of thumb for playing trivia: When in doubt, go with your first answer. It saves arguing and cuts right through potentially endless cycles of self-doubt.

Seattlest Trivia Night knows that tomorrow you’ll either be cursing those receiving flowers or cursing Hallmark for making you spend money on forced jesters of love.

25 teams! Free ashtrays for the taking! Controversy about whether or not Bangor is a "city" or just part of Bremerton! And a geeky white boy dance-off to close the evening!

"The bums will always lose!"

Much like a conquering hero returning to the battlefield, Hüsker Don't cleaned up at Seattlest Trivia Night after several weeks off.

Have you been down in your basement lately?

We showed tonight's quiz to our resident almost-genius (and sometime quiz host) Seth, who declared that at least one round was "really painful -- I'd have gotten a zero."

We can't make it out to our friend's wedding party in Madison two weeks from Saturday, and we are not happy about it.

Things we learned at trivia last night:

What if I were to tell you that you could hang out with your friends, drink three dollar Newcastles, eat three tacos for two dollars, and win cash prizes?

We never claimed to be good at math.

Want to flaunt your cerebellum? Head to the Old Pequliar in Ballard tonight. Seattlest's trivia night starts at 8:00 sharp, with Seattlest James hosting.
