Sick of all those cliched songs like "Livin' in the U.S.A" by the Coug or "God Bless the U.S.A." by Lee Greenwood? Yeah, us too. So we decided to throw together a not-so-conventional soundtrack for your Fourth.
Songs for the Fourth: Get Your America On
Weekend Music
Tonight, everybody's favorite local chanteuse Jesse Sykes plays a free KEXP show at Seattle Center's Mural Ampitheater, featuring music from her new EP Gentleness of Nothing. (Tomorrow night, Rocky Votolato plays the Mural.)
We Went: Macklemore, The Physics, JFK and Wiz @ Nectar
Nectar was full of hiphop fans anticipating the power line-up on Saturday night. Macklemore, back from a tour in Europe, headlined in a masterful performance with special guests XPerience (out of Olympia) and Evan Roman; Grayskul (and his shaggy-haired little brother!) rocked some of his solo work, and we finally got to hear Wizdom do his thing. Wiz's solid work was actually upstaged by his special guest, Grynch, who is astoundingly, consistently good at focusing his energy and drawing in the crowd.
Super Bowl Sunday @ Central Cinema
Central Cinema, over at 21st and Union, is showing the Super Bowl on its big screen. This Sunday, 3pm. The biggest football you've ever seen. We've checked the Big Picture's website, and it looks like Central Cinema has this idea all to itself.
