Eco-Theatre: Keep the Light On at Annex is human-powered theatre -- bicycling literally keeps the lights on. The collection of three dystopic one-acts includes Foxy Populi ("a hilarious, sharp-fanged satire on the downfall of Western civilization, through the meltdown of a crazed blond pop star"), 1001 ("a skein of surreal scenes spun by a Scheherazade-like delivery boy who tangles with a one-eyed pharmacist, a homicidal client and a lisping Mexican widow") and ElectriCity (a......

Making up for weeks of hibernation and workaholism, Kim will hit the parties this weekend. Tonight, she’ll don her Groucho glasses for a lesbian function at Jabu’s celebrating the births of her two favorite Sagitarii. Saturday, it’s to the War Room for a company party with the missus and her workmates. Finally, she’ll ship off to the sub-tropics on Monday, where she’ll spend what remains of 2007. While his wife is taking a Wilderness......

The glorious fall sunsets have disappeared along with the mouldering husks of Halloween pumpkins, and according the weather report, we can all expect a long, cold, wet weekend. But this being the Northwest, that's never stopped us from getting out and about; here's the weekend plans of your intrepid Seattlest contributors: By the time this hits the digital newsstands, Jeremy is going to be on his way to Fadó for post-work cocktails; after that......

The Chemistry That Keeps Us Together, The Purrs' long-awaited follow-up to their breakout LP The Dreams Our Stuff is Made Of, dropped a couple weeks ago, and we've been listening to it steadily since. Earlier this year, they promised us the album was moving in a new direction, exploring harder rock material, exemplified by the song "She's Got Chemicals," which has been in their set list for over a year now. It opens with......

Tuesday, January 9 >>> Fred Gianelli at Baltic Room. Fred Gianelli has worked under a number of pseudonyms over the years, first as part of Psychic TV, then later as Acid Didj, Giannelli, Deneuve, Mazdaratti, and most famously as The Kooky Scientist. He's weathered a few trends in the world of techno, gathering a reputation as a gearhead and quality producer. Will he feature a stripped down setup this time around, or will he......

Tuesday night at Neumos, local label Sarathan Records had a label showcase and record release party for the new Purrs album. This isn't to say that we've found other labels to be filled with assholes or anything, but Sarathan Records might have the nicest artist roster around. Everyone that took the stage seemed like the type that would help you fix a flat tire even if they were late for an appointment. We're not sure......

We were expecting the first day of Bumbershoot to be absolutely hellacious, what with the warm temps and the large crowds. Surprisingly, neither weather nor crowd size was *that* bad. As to the music: Interest is building for local band The Purrs, and their solid set at the EMP Sky Church showed why. Their sound is straight-forward jangly rock, with heavy British influences and more than a hint of shoe-gaze. The band really took......

Decisions, decisions. This member of Seattlest will have a good friend in town for the duration of Bumbershoot weekend, so most of our scheduling will depend on him. Good thing our friends tend to have taste. Present company excluded. On Saturday, we want to check out new Sarathan psych-rockers The Purrs, but we'll also catch Jamie Lidell. We have seen him once before, but our friend has not and we think Jamie's retro-futuristic electro-soul......
