The Purrs' CD Release Party Sat. at the Sunset

Amused, Confused, & More Bad News, the third (or fourth, depending on how you look at it) studio album from local post-psych outfit The Purrs, comes across as guardedly autobiographical. Amidst the jangly guitar rock and fuzzed-out riffs, you can read the album as a document of the band's struggles since their 2005 debut The Dreams Our Stuff Is Made Of. With songs like "Loose Talk" and "Taste of Monday" garnering regular play on KEXP, the self-released album did about as well as they could have hoped for. They signed to a local label, and things were looking good. Then, well, not much happened.

Local faves The Purrs headline a Monday night line-up at Neumo's, with a trio of other bands. The Purrs plan to release their third LP later this year, including "Waiting for the Asteroid," "The Outpost," a super-chill sci-fi epic that's totally out-of-character thematically for the band, and has hints of Bowie all over it.

Making up for weeks of hibernation and workaholism, Kim will hit the parties this weekend. Tonight, she’ll don her Groucho glasses for a lesbian function at Jabu’s celebrating the births of her two favorite Sagitarii. Saturday, it’s to the War Room for a company party with the missus and her workmates. Finally, she’ll ship off to the sub-tropics on Monday, where she’ll spend what remains of 2007.

The glorious fall sunsets have disappeared along with the mouldering husks of Halloween pumpkins, and according the weather report, we can all expect a long, cold, wet weekend. But this being the Northwest, that's never stopped us from getting out and about; here's the weekend plans of your intrepid Seattlest contributors:

, dropped a couple weeks ago, and we've been listening to it steadily since.

Tuesday night at Neumos, local label Sarathan Records had a label showcase and record release party for the new Purrs album. This isn't to say that we've found other labels to be filled with assholes or anything, but Sarathan Records might have the nicest artist roster around. Everyone that took the stage seemed like the type that would help you fix a flat tire even if they were late for an appointment. We're not sure how that niceness factors into their music, but we're happy to be able to tell you that the music was entertaining as well.

A little something for everyone. Consider next Monday's show the icing on the delicious music-y cake.

Yeah, we know you just spent all weekend at Bumbershoot. Is the wee little baby tired? Can't handle any more music? Ah, look at that poodum...

We were expecting the first day of Bumbershoot to be absolutely hellacious, what with the warm temps and the large crowds. Surprisingly, neither weather nor crowd size was *that* bad. As to the music:

Decisions, decisions. This member of Seattlest will have a good friend in town for the duration of Bumbershoot weekend, so most of our scheduling will depend on him. Good thing our friends tend to have taste. Present company excluded.
