AMERICA, AMERICA, THIS IS YOU: It's the final week to feast your eyes on The Old, Weird America installation over at the Frye. The kooky collection--winner of the 2008 Best Thematic Museum Show award--rounds up a range of contemporary artwork with thematic ties to American forklore. A somewhat rambling, relevant pre-1960s America history lesson, even if the art itself is very...weird.
Can't Miss It: Monday
Get Out: The Two of Us at SIFF Cinema
When we looked at tonight's SIFF Cinema schedule, what first caught our eye was the first part of the double feature: 10 Years of Rialto Trailers. Thinking it would be a great way to figure out which noir films we should see during the rest of the festival, and get a crash course in the genre, we decided to check it out. Plus, we love trailers.
Get Out Tuesday: Seattlest Trivia at the Old Pequliar
Observation: Seattlest James hosts trivia at the Old Pequliar on the first Tuesday of the month.

On the off chance that you don't know the drill, let us introduce you:
Seattlest Trivia Tonight
Seattlest Trivia Night knows that tomorrow you’ll either be cursing those receiving flowers or cursing Hallmark for making you spend money on forced jesters of love.
Get Out
DEMOCRACY: There's a Seattle school levy election today. If you don't know where you are supposed to vote, but know your name and the day you were born, you can look it up online. If you can't get to that place, you can cast a provisional ballot anywhere--just march up to the nice poll-worker ladies at your local school or church and say "I'd like to cast a provisional ballot, please." We did it last election and it worked like a dream.
Seattlest Trivia Tonight at the Old Pequliar
Expect the usual: geography, movies, pictures, 3 tacos for $2, and mass chaos.
Jan. 9 Seattlest Trivia Results
Apparently there's a reason we don't usually start the quiz fuelled by a shot of Jack Daniel's -- we give away answers. Sharp-eared teams -- which was most of them -- noticed that we gave away the answer to a Wizard of Oz question when talking about Hugh Rockoff's interpretation of the book as a parable about the gold standard. We didn't realize it until we were reading the answers, and suddenly understood why Brazilian Mietze had wagged their fingers at us.
Something Appealing, Something Appalling: Last Night's Trivia
Best thing we learned at last night's quiz: Gabriel Garcia Marquez looks like "Agatha Christie on a bad day."
What if flu hit Seattle like it did 88 years ago today?
On this date in 1918, the worldwide flu pandemic hit Seattle, as 700 cases were reported among the sailors at the University of Washington Naval Training Center on Lake Union. The disease primarily struck those between 20 and 35.
"Tough, but Fair" -- The August 1 Trivia Wrap-Up
Tuesday night, Seattlest decided to ratchet up the difficulty level on the quiz at the Old Pequilar. And we think that worked well. We heard bitching, but it was good, brain-smacking bitching, not lynch-the-quiz-host bitching.
Seattlest Trivia Kicks Off Tonight!
No longer content to merely talk about pub trivia, Seattlest has decided to host a quiz of our own. Tonight is our official debut.
Item! Trivia Scandal at the Old Pequliar
JJ Hunsecker here. Those in the know think the trivia game at The Old Pequliar is starting to smell like yesterday's fish. You can usually find Seattlest there Tuesday nights, but we were unable to go this week. Turns out we missed quite an event.
We Also Read the Weeklies: Overstuffed Edition
Weeklies: Please, enough with the dueling themed issues. Is this some weird contest of who's going to back down first? Alright, then. We give! Uncle! The readers have folded first, now can we get back to regularly scheduled programming.
Among the Virtual Stacks
The Seattle Times today has an excellent article about the availability of ebooks at the King County Library. From the article:
