We think of Kurt Cobain’s short, violently-ended life like Clarence Worley does The King’s: "In Jailhouse Rock he was everything rockabilly's about. I mean, he is rockabilly. Mean, surly, nasty, rude. In that movie he couldn't give a fuck about nothing except rockin' and rollin', living fast, dying young and leaving a good-looking corpse." In most respects, Kurt lived—and died—just how he wanted. But it would be nice to still have him around. He’d......

Those who attended the Issaquah Village Theater’s matinee of The King and I today may have come away a little disappointed. Dino Rossi used the stage to announce his candidacy for governor. After his Eastside announcement, Rossi raced the telegraph wires to Spokane and made his announcement again this afternoon. The man who got his asshole handed to him three years ago by current governor Christine Gregoire, has been the Republicans' guy since he decided......

At SeaTac, air traffic controllers are complaining about "ghost" planes appearing on their "scopes" (that's lingo we picked up from Pushing Tin). The King Country Journal reports (via AP) that: Controllers have been complaining since November that they often redirect planes because of "false targets" on the airport's radar. In announcing plans for the fix this week, Federal Aviation Administration officials agreed that better software was needed but denied there has been a safety......

Wednesday, November 1 >>>Benaroya Hall, 7:30pm. Seattle Arts and Lectures brings prolific big shot and errant van survivor Stephen King by. Maybe you’ve heard of him? For the Constant Reader, it’s an event not to be missed. He'll talk about Lisey’s Story, his latest novel. Tickets $25 and $35. But, like many things in King’s Dark Tower world, they’ve already moved on. >>>University Temple Methodist Church, 7:00pm. Keeping with the All Soul's Day theme,......

Now that Memorial Day weekend is past us, and Folklife and Sasquatch have played their last rain-soaked notes, it's time to focus on the things that really matter: SIFF films. Just for fun, go check out the SIFF 2006 profile on Flickr. It's got a lot of great pics, including a bunch of Jessica Biel looking vacuous and a dozen photos of Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn. Dudes, we understand that you really like......

One of the surest signs of spring--wild Copper River Salmon arrived at Sea-Tac today, flown down from the Copper River valley in southeastern Alaska. What's the big deal? Why not let Joe Q. Businessman tell us? Here's what the Copper River Salmon Producers Assocation (CRSPA) has to say: The cold rushing waters of the Copper River produce some of the richest, most naturally succulent salmon in the world. Wild Copper River Chinook (King), Sockeye......

Today is National High Five Day. No, really. Sure, it's a silly observation, but Seattle needs more occasions to not take itself so seriously. So why start with a mention of a ridiculous "holiday?" Seattlest felt the same joy (giddy elation if you will) hearing about NHFD that was felt upon hearing about the Seattle reappearance of King Britt. While Britt is not gimmicky in the least, both events are worthy of your attention. Since......

King County will be holding its primary election next Tuesday; however, in two races the primary will also act as the general election. Because Democrats live in the city and Republicans live on the Eastside, the two races that feature only candidates from a particular party will be decided next week (or in the courts sometime next June). The King County Council is being shrunk from thirteen seats to nine, meaning that four sitting council......
