It’s a new month, and that means a new dining promotion around town. Returning is New Urban Eats, featuring some of the relative newbie restaurants in and around the Seattle area. For $30, you’ll enjoy three courses—a choice of appetizer, entrée, and dessert from a fixed-price menu. Participating restaurants: 94 Stewart, Beato Food & Wine, Betty, Coupage, Cremant, Crush, Cucina De-Ra, Divine, Enotria, Iris Grill, Kurrent, Lucia, Moxie, 0/8 Seafood Grill, Opal, Portage, Qube,......

"I don’t venture north of even the cut, unless provoked." So said one Seattlest contributor when we asked what inspires us to turn our backs on downtown and drive north. Wimp. What counts as northern Seattle? We don't mean "North Seattle" -- the U District, Ballard, Fremont. We mean northern Seattle -- north of 85th, city limits until 1954. We fudged a bit, including a few places between the city limits and King-Sno county line.......

As we promised last week, Seattlest played the quiz at Kate's Pub last night. Our team, Eclectic Boogaloo, ended up winning the pot, although it took a tiebreaker round to get there. (Sorry, Ozzy's Outcasts. Good game.) Where & when: Kate's Pub in Wallingford, at 45th and Latona. Officially the quiz time is 8:00, but rumor has it that it usually starts later. Last night, it got started at about 9:00 and finished about 10:20.......

Seattlest first encountered The Hoopleheads a few months ago when we gave trivia at The Jones a whirl. They beat us, though they didn't win the evening. We ran into them again on August 1 when we hosted trivia at the Old Pequliar. They won outright that evening, and introduced themselves after the contest. By the way, they said, we're working on a Seattle pub trivia website. Great, we replied, let us know when it's......

Tuesday night, Seattlest decided to ratchet up the difficulty level on the quiz at the Old Pequilar. And we think that worked well. We heard bitching, but it was good, brain-smacking bitching, not lynch-the-quiz-host bitching. A record 14 teams signed up to play, which meant nice, large prizes: first place took home $100, second $25, and third $15. Round 8, our "identify the picture book by its cover" round, brought out some of the most......

Last night, Seattlest checked out the quiz at Murphy's Irish Pub in Wallingford. This evening, we were playing with a full team of 5 members. Quiz: Three separate quizzes of 20 questions, divided into two 10-question rounds each devoted to a particular category. The first quiz last night, for example, included authors and history. Teams are required to buy in at the beginning of each quiz, and a pot is given away at the end.......

Crisis. Opportunity. We don't need self-help myths about Chinese characters to draw connections between the two. Last week's debacle at our regular trivia venue? A great opportunity to wander from local pub to local pub, trying out their quizzes and telling you which ones are worth your while. First stop: The Jones Bistro, recommended by Fred in our earlier post's comments. We played their quiz last night. Here's the rundown. Quiz: 40 questions, grouped into......
