Sure, we've read his bestselling book, Raising an Emotionally Intelligent Child: The Heart of Parenting. Heck, we even own the DVD. But it wasn't until after last night's lecture at Town Hall, presented by Parent Map, that we could truly call ourselves John Gottman fans. He charmed the sold-out crowd with heartwarming anecdotes and stone-cold research, and by the time we left, we were better, calmer parents (or soon-to-be parents).

Seventeen teams showed up at the Old Pequliar last night to see if our voice would give out. We managed to get through the evening without having a Peter Brady moment, but we're grateful to those of you who were willing to step up to the mic at a moment's notice.

SEATTLEST BOOK CLUB PICK: For March, we're reading Jonathan Raban's Surveillance, set in a not-so-distant future, when everyone's actions are highly monitored. Get a head start on the conversation by hearing from Raban himself. (We'll know if you went or not.)

SIFF enters its second full week with a slew of great documentaries, including the final screening of fair trade coffee doc Black Gold (Tuesday, 9:30pm @ the Egyptian). The directors, Marc and Nick Francis, will be in attendance, as will Tadesse Meskela, an Ethiopian Farm Cooperative Organizer featured in the film. The SIFF screenings mark the first time the directors and subject have been together since the making of the film---and the first time Meskela has seen the film on the big screen.

Asia Argento has got her father's knack for horror. Sure, there are no limbs being severed as someone falls through broken glass, but the domestic horrors depicted in "The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things" are on par with the finest of her father's work. The film tells the story of Jeremiah. Raised by foster parents until the age of 7. Reclaimed by his abusive, alcoholic mother. Raped by her boyfriend. Abandoned by his mother. Claimed by his abusive, Christian grandparents.

This week's weather was beautiful, enough to justify Seattlest's first bbq of the year. But it's going to be a wet weekend, according to KOMO-TV's Scott Sistek. How will Seattlest keep dry? Read on...

They have shows booked in February but there's no one home right now. What gives at Graceland? For starters, it's not Graceland anymore.
