Seattlest photographer Zach Luellen's mom, Cheryl, continues her review of the area's other gigantic music festival, the DMB Caravan.

This weekend the DMB Caravan arrives at The Gorge at George, Washington for a three day extravaganza. The weekend is full of a great variety of bands including Lemolo, Blind Pilot, The Roots, Devotchka, Tim Reynolds and the Dave Matthews Band. Great music and a great atmosphere for those who would like to get out of town this three day weekend. The weather is going to be beautiful and you just can’t go wrong with spending Labor Day weekend with Dave Matthews Band and friends.
Wake Up and Watch: The Cave Singers
Yesterday, Gina crushed your heart by telling you there was no way to see Cave Singers open for Fleet Foxes tonight. But we didn't want to leave you hanging, so here's a music video for you to enjoy. It's a pretty close second, right?
Can't Miss It: Tuesday
BICYCLE ROLLING: Pioneer Square's 88 Keys Dueling Piano and Sports Bar is kicking off their roller biking (if that's an appropriate name) tournaments and grudge matches tonight. Wikipedia schooled us on the relevant history: bicycle rolling was originally popular in Britain in the 1950s. It also states that people would normally partake in the rolling matches before watching movies at the cinema (strange), or while waiting in between dances at dance halls (even stranger). Roller racing is still popular in Britain, mainly with the bicycle messenger community, heading tournaments under the name Rollapalooza. Bizarre? Maybe, but we're still curious about this seemingly grueling activity of biking on rollers to the imaginary finish line. 88 Keys will be supplying the bikes, but it is recommended to wear or bring street shoes.
Capitol Hill Block Party in Brief, Les Savy Fav in Briefs
Head Like a Kite: By the time we got into Neumos, we'd unfortunately missed most of their set. Whatever they were playing when we walked in, it was awesome and everyone was into it. It wasn't long, however, before they went into show-closing mode with more ethereal, experimental jam stuff. We dig Head Like a Kite, but they also bore us sometimes.
Capitol Hill Block Party: Saturday!
Ahh, Saturday! A chronologically arranged discussion of the Block Party, Day Zwei (Day Eins here):
John Roderick, Funny MFer
Not that we need to feed his ego or anything, but John Roderick (of The Long Winters) is a funny dude.
Seattle to Austin
Seattlest is quaking in their boots (bought especially for the occasion) with excitement for this years SXSW in Austin, Tex. We're making our initial sojourn to the festival and are so pleased to see there will be a strong Seattle contingent joining us in Austin this year.
Heads Up: Sasquatch Lineup By Day
Right on the heels of the announcement that the Mars Volta was added to the Sasquatch lineup, and right before tickets go on sale this Saturday, the three-day music festival has seen fit to delineate who will be playing on which day:
Heads Up: Sasquatch Lineup Announced
After months of wild speculation, the official 2008 Sasquatch lineup has finally been announced:
Weekend Music
Quality over quantity, yes? Yes. The weekend isn't bursting with great shows, but there's plenty enough to go around.
Rock Stars Should Not Be Taking Our Sammich Orders
Lunch today, walked down to a nearby grocery/deli for the best sandwich in the world (Pike Place Special).
An Invitation from the Cave Singers
In January of this year, the Weekly's Brian J. Barr described local trio the Cave Singers as "an updated version of the Anthology of American Folk Music. Not the graduate-student, learned interpretations of folk music circa 1962, but folk music approached by way of punk rock. It's sparse, melodic, and simultaneously creepy and alluring, like the widow mourning graveside in Johnny Cash's 'Long Black Veil'." That was enough to get Matador Records interested, who signed the band in May and released their debut album Invitation Songs last month.
Get Out Saturday: KEXP BBQ
Can you think of a better way to spend your Saturday than kicking back on the lawn, chowing on a burger and listening to great live music?
Au Revoir, Pretty Girls Make Graves -- You Will Be Missed
A strange sort of nervous tension sat on the shoulders of the crowd as Nick Dewitt, Andrea Zollo, Jay Clark, Leona Marrs and Derek Fudesco took the stage together for the last time. It sat there, weighing us down -- a burdensome feeling of finality. And it stayed there, unrelenting, tugging at our throat from the inside, even during the first couple of songs. We were having a great time, sure, but we were too aware of the fact that this would be the last great time we'd have with this band. We needed to shake it off, chill the fuck out. Enjoy this. By the time the third song began -- a pulsating number from 2003's The New Romance (our favorite PGMG album) -- we were dancing and sweating along with our neighbors, along with the band.
When We Think of Summer, We Think of Car Insurance
Finally, someone else sees things our way. Like peanut butter and jelly, there has been one natural combination longing to be put together: having a beer and thinking about your favorite insurance company. Thank God Online providers Esurance have stepped up to the plate. Meshing together insurance needs with scenester whoredom, that's right, this year it's the Esurance Capitol Hill Block Party.
