There seems to be a new grassroots movement lately toward, well... bluegrass/newgrass rock music. Now I'm sure you're thinking, as were we, that bluegrass is for your dad or grandpa. Honestly about six months ago we would have agreed with you wholeheartedly. No matter how many records people would play for us, we simply weren't convinced. It just wasn't relateable... at the time. Flash forward to the present and we find ourselves in love with talented bluegrass-style groups like the Maldives, Moondoggies, Cave Singers, Trampled by Turtles, Blitzen Trapper, and even arguably The Builders and the Butchers and Decemberists. more ›

"I think the Decemberists are a great band, and I think there are some similarities: we are both folkish and use more varied instrumentation than most rock bands. I think that if you actually sit and listen to both bands, you'd see that they both are coming from very different places. The era of songs that drive and influence the majority of the Builders' material is early Depression-era blues, folk, and gospel, and weirder stuff like Tom Waits." more ›

Head Like a Kite: By the time we got into Neumos, we'd unfortunately missed most of their set. Whatever they were playing when we walked in, it was awesome and everyone was into it. It wasn't long, however, before they went into show-closing mode with more ethereal, experimental jam stuff. We dig Head Like a Kite, but they also bore us sometimes. more ›
