Last weekend was dead, so of course this weekend there's approximately one bajillion bands playing. We've already mentioned Kaki King, Dengue Fever, and Born Ruffians, so here's the other weekend shows of interest:

For once, it was actually nice weather at the Gorge for Sasquatch. Last year was all sturm und drang and the year previous was approximately the temperature of the sun, but the gods smiled down on all gathered in George, Washington yesterday afternoon, as it was a pleasant 80 degrees under partly cloudy skies.

Last year's Sasquatch line up was good, but not good enough to get us to spend three days at the Gorge. We still prefer the festival in its one-day, all-in-one-fell-swoop form, but with the lineup that's been announced for this year's two-day fest, we may just have to make the trip. Out of the two days, it was Saturday that really made us coo. Bjork *and* Arcade Fire? Consider us sold. There are still bands to be announced, but here's how things stand as of right now:

Ditto what the Stranger said, unfortunately - This show did kinda suck. The crowd seemed really excited about The Blow, but they came out and delivered what was more of a staged representation of a high-energy show (complete with self-referential commentary: "This is the part where I do such and such!" Such and such occurs.) than an actual high-energy show. And when we say "they" we actually mean "she." The Blow is supposed to be a twosome: she kind of sing-shouting and looking all cute; he doing the beats. The people we watched the show with (hey guys, email) spoke highly of the CD and were severely disappointed by the deejay's no-show. Can't make it all the way up from PDX to open for of Montreal, dude? Of Montreal wasn't all that, it turns out, anyway. We left halfway through, so maybe it picked up after Seattlest and some of the other dead weight cleared out, but we doubt it.

Seattlest is going to see a show tonight at the Showbox. It's Of Montreal which has been around forever, it seems, but is currently rising to the point that they're selling out the Showbox. It's also The Blow from Portland and Aqueduct from here. Of Montreal is a kind of guitar disco dirty pop thing - We've been listening to Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? and we can see why tickets are available through Craigslist and not TicketsWest. They also have a weird schtick going on and have really wordy album titles (Horse & Elephant Eatery (No Elephants Allowed); Deflated Chime, Foals Slightly Flower Sibylline Responses) which we're usually suckers for. Despite it being about the music, of course.
