El Camino is Way Better than PBRs in Front of Your Box Fan

Yesterday, as the mercury went from "uncomfortable" to "unbearable," the search was on for a patio that could serve up the required survival items at a time like this: chips, salsa, and stiff margaritas. Fortunately we found ourselves near El Camino, one of Seattle’s most overlooked outdoor sanctuaries.

Rrrowr! Marie Claire Cat Fight, Round 3

It all started last week when the August issue of Marie Claire (not on the magazine's webpage, because somehow Hearst doesn't know how to work the tubes) included a list of the top cities for women to meet single men. It was based on some statistics of dubious merit--among them the number of Starbucks and movie theaters--as well as some stats in areas we'd think Seattle would rank poorly (public transit, last call time). Despite all that--not to mention the phenomenon of the Seattle freeze--our fair city came out on top in the dating survey, beating, well, everyone else.

 • Goats do roam in Lynnwood, but for how much longer? Goats are so much cooler than domestic pets.
 • One tequila, two tequila, three tequila--floor. Need a little tequila salvation? Capitol Hill's The Saint (think bright blue building) is celebrating its uno birthday, with a week-long all-night happy hour, starting tonight and running through next Thursday. The code word: El Toro.
 • It's a beautiful day at Boeing, who just won an order to deliver more 787s, the Everett Herald reports.

You've called in to work, gotten some laundry in the wash, taken the dog out for a quick walk. What's left to do on this very snowy day? Drink! Inspired by one of our friend's Twitter posts at 8 a.m. announcing he was drinking vodka and cranberry already, we spent some time with our housemates discussing the most revolting creative shots we've ever tossed back. Read about our top three, and then raid your liquor cabinet. A (wo)man's gotta do something to keep warm.

Seattlest likes to put on a party-planner hat for you every once in a while (we blame it on unresolved "feelings" stirred up by Julie from the Love Boat). Tonight we've got a one-two punch all lined up, centered around a screening of the silent-era Zorro, with Douglas Fairbanks, at the Paramount (7 p.m., $12). The more we watch Fairbanks, the more certain we are that he invented parkour back in the 1920s. Watch this three-minute YouTube excerpt from Zorro to get in the mood. However, be warned that the tinny soundtrack you hear is in no way comparable to the magnificence of the Paramount's majestic Mighty Wurlitzer organ, helmed by Dennis James. The food and drink to complement this evening's imaginary expedition to Mexico are waiting at The Saint, which is conveniently a walkable distance from the Paramount—and depending on how enthusiastic you are about sampling the Saint's tequila cocktails, walking might be a legal requirement.

Now that the weather is finally get warmer, it's time to plan some summertime drinking. Enter The Saint, the new tequila bar/Mexican cantina from Havana owner Quentin Ertel. What was once the ugly (and scary) Wing Dome behemoth is now the soothingly sky blue building at the corner of Olive and Bellevue. Ertel describes his latest social club as:

a tequila bar that would appeal to afficionados of the good life; a place where the grapefruit juice is always squeezed fresh and the pace is a little slower; where the cocktails are built from a library of fine tequilas; where the cocina bustles with cooks making food from scratch. A place where a little bit of extra love goes into everything, an homage to the time-honored process of making one of the finest spirits on earth.
