Dishin’: Big Rules and Little Clams at Tamarind Tree

Dishin’: Big Rules and Little Clams at Tamarind Tree

Several years ago, we gave up on Tamarind Tree after some absurdly inept service (dishes came out of order – or didn’t come at all – and the waitstaff were cold), enjoying instead the consistent sweetness and goodness of Green Leaf. But in a moment of unfaithfulness, after hearing recent rave reviews, we decided to give TT another try. more ›

Schmoozing and Boozing

Schmoozing and Boozing

nametag.gifSeattlest is still buzzing after the wonderful Redfin-sponsored Techcrunch meetup a few weeks ago (what can we say, free pizza goes a long way). That said, we had tempered expectations regarding Tuesday's (also Redfin-sponsored) nPost networking event, but found ourselves happily surprised by how enjoyable this pure networking gathering turned out to be. more ›

Relish: Seven Courses of Beef

Relish: Seven Courses of Beef

Seattlest reviewed Tamarind Tree not so long ago, but we just couldn't help a return visit for the oh-so-tempting "Seven Courses of Beef". We couldn't find much history on Seven Courses of Beef but we did discover that it's a popular Vietnamese meal that involves, well, beef, beef and more beef. The meal generally starts with a beef fondue and ends with a beef soup. In between are beef wraps, beef "sausages", and other crazy, beef-y preparations. more ›

Last Week on Seattlest

From time to time we suck at Seattlest. It's not often, but it does happen. On Friday, for example, we sucked. When talking about The Stranger we confused two separate incidents that have nothing in common except that they both involved Seattle police mistreating young black males in front of Seattle nightspots (1, 2). That's terrible of us and we apologize. Misspelling the names of Stranger writers is not cool either. We also reported not one, but two events as if they were taking place this past weekend when they are actually still in the future. That's great if you wanted to attend but thought you missed them, but not so great if you care about things like accurate reporting. more ›

Relish: Tamarind Tree

The last time Seattlest went to Sichuanese Cuisine, we noticed a fancy looking Vietnamese restaurant around the corner and added it to our mental list of places to check out. A few weeks later, we found ourselves in the ID and craving Vietnamese food. Tamarind Tree is located in the back of the Asian Mall on the corner Jackson and 12th. It's not exactly a pretty area, so walking into the restaurant was a little jarring. Seattlest couldn't believe how atmospheric and intimate the restaurant was with its dim lighting and high(er)-end décor. We certainly didn't expect to find a place like this in the heart of the ID. more ›
