Blame the rain if you lost power yesterday or couldn't get your Fleet Foxes fix; meanwhile, in unrelated news, the Committee for Sunshine may be dismantled, and a fat lot of green was seized in the southeast, all in today's headlines.

Weekend Weather Looks--Wait, Don't Wanna Jinx It
Multiple weatherological sources are saying if we can just hold out through showers today and tomorrow, we're headed to some mighty fine sunshine--in fact we might hit 70 by Thursday. We get a little weepy just thinking about it.
Stalk Of The Town
MvB is off to Annex Theatre tonight for Love's Tangled Web; Saturday night is Bosco's jazz gig/CD party at The Mix in Georgetown. Sunday he hopes to be kissed--with tongue--by the spring sun's rays.
Can't Miss It: Tuesday
URGENT ASSESSMENT: Tonight at Town Hall, author and Canadian David Suzuki will offer what his blurb calls "an urgent assessment" of environmental issues. We're picturing him lecturing in double-time; after all, the environment might collapse before he finishes with even one of the topics he's planning on urgently assessing. No time to lose. Anyway, the lecture sounds promising, if you can bear to leave the park tonight.
Neighborhood News And Local Blog Round-Up
- MyBallard has photos of a very cute raccoon lounging in the sun on someone's roof, watching the world pass by. That's exactly how we want to spend the afternoon.
- The Rainier Valley Post spent yesterday at Seward Park. We'd settle for lounging in the sun there instead of on someone's roof...!
- Beacon Hill Blog published a reader's letter asking for improved internet service in their neighborhood.
Boeing To Lay Off 900 Today
We knew it was coming, but it still stings: Boeing has announced it will lay off 900 employees today of the 10,000 expected over the course of 2009. 700 of those employees will be from our area. Ouch....On the first day of spring, too. At least it's not sunny or anything, because that would really be unfair.

It's a beautiful day outside, and this is just one of your numerous options. Get out there and dig on that old fashioned Vitamin D. (More ideas about what to do on a sunny day are always available in our Flickr pool.)
Get Your Sun On, Today Only
Last night--see Exhibit A, to the right--we walked home in a snow flurry. This morning it's 25 degrees and sunny. Tomorrow, says Cliff Mass, it's back to a rainy gray: "Temps will warm rapidly as the associated front approaches and there should be considerable rain shadowing from Seattle northward. So it is possible that some locations will initially see some snow (particularly south Tacoma) that will turn to rain."

Seattlest knows that we have several days of sunshine and warmer temperatures right around the corner (currently, it's looking like it'll start on Tuesday), but we're oh so eager for the extra shot of Vitamin D. Remember summer? This is just one of its faces, and there are plenty more in our Flickr pool. Take a look and imagine the feeling of the light, warmth, and sun.
Where the Sun Shines and the Snow Don't Fall, Y'all
When Seattlest was 19, we decided it might be fun to leave our small southern town to head north for college. We chose a random school in Buffalo, New York, because it seemed like it would be a total change of pace—the second largest city in one of the largest states in the union, lots of Rust Belt charm, different weather patterns. Our sister sent us a story called "A Southerner Moves North," which talked about how the first couple weeks of snow were delightful and charming, magical, fun. By the end of the winter, the "southerner" is cursing the gods for their uncaring wrath and the evil that is the Snowplow Man.

We promise you we didn't search back in the depths of Seattlest's suddenly sunny Flickr Pool. Oh, no, this photo was taken yesterday! Yesterday, as in the tail end of October! We have to thank Seattle weather for trying to make up for the lackluster summer and for giving us the sun now. There are few things more beautiful in the world than a crisp sunny Seattle fall day, and we are extra appreciative of them now. Do share your photos of Seattle's electric blue fall skies with us, won't you?
Stalk Of The Town
Tera will be catching the Saturday evening premiere of Spring Awakening at the Paramount. Saturday evening will be followed with a leisurely plane ride to Orlando where she’ll be trying out for the Mickey Mouse Club, or riding rollercoasters--however you want to look at it.

Get ready for more record high temperatures in Seattle today, as summer's finally here. Another beautiful shot of a sunny day in SoDo, courtesy of our Seattlest Flickr Pool. Have you seen that thing lately? Add your photos now.
Sunny Day Real Estate
We were walking down Broadway at lunchtime trying to decide on the perfect uncrowded, sun-soaking lunchspot, when it came to us. Actually, it was printed on a sign that advertised La Puerta's lunch specials. That's when we remembered that La Puerta has an upstairs deck overlooking Broadway -- and that their food is resolutely mediocre, virtually guaranteeing light occupancy. How right we were. Just one couple was sitting outside, discussing a California "growing" operation. We had our choice of tables con umbrella and sin umbrella. We went sin. This is a strictly a health issue for us; as you know, a vitamin D deficiency will kill you dead. And sun-starved Seattleites tend to have dipsticks that read ADD MORE when it comes to D. "Some doctors" say that 10-15 minutes of non-SPF sun exposure is all it takes. We don't know, we're not a medical doctor. All we know is that a) our chimichanga was subpar, b) Chicagoans sneer at Seattle's winters, and c) we should have never told you about our secret sun spot.
Get Out: Of Town. No, Seriously
When even a convent in Olympia began to seem expensive (egads), Seattlest settled for a trip to the mysterious region called "unincorporated Snohomish County," also known as "our parents' house." We would take a vacation, damnit, even if that meant a weekend of sitting in our high school bedroom-turned-guest-room, noshing on Trader Joe's brie, and contemplating the tiny nature reserve just beyond the rows of strawberry plants in the back yard.
Go See the Buses, Go Drink Some Beer
This just in: the sun is out! In honor of this rare and auspicious occurance, we think you should cut out of work early for a "doctor appointment," and head to the hill to look at some pretty VW buses.
