Damon Agnos at the Weekly reports on the the coalition suing to prevent I-90 light rail from happening, a weird last-ditch attempt to keep Seattle from driving its train deep into the Eastside, again and oh god again, via tunnel. The suit--claiming light rail can't use I-90 because that would besmirch its use by upstanding automobile drivers--is ridiculous, as are most of Kemper Freeman's suits. Personally, we can't wait to pull on our flip-flops and stained wife-beater, hit the light rail, and terrorize the hell out of Bell Square while drinking our Volvic out of a brown paper bag.
"Don't Let Those Light Rail Hoboes Near Bell Square!"

Seattle Bank Sued Over $600-Million Ponzi Scheme
Bloomberg is reporting that Regal Financial Bank, headquartered at the 4th and Madison Tower, is being "sued by a group of more than 4,000 Indonesian investors over accusations it helped operate a $600 million Ponzi scheme." The suit alleges that Regal Financial Bank President Jesse Tam and an advisory board member, Danny Wong, assisted in soliciting funds for an investment company, but that the funds were used to pay previous investors, while Tam "Madoff" with some of the funds for Regal. Regal says the allegations are "baseless," says the PSBJ.
And The WTF Headline Of The Day Goes To...
King5.com's headline, "Oral surgeon accused of botching teen's breast surgery." There is so much wrong with this headline, but we will just choose to focus on the words that begin and end the sentence. They are words which we now believe should never, ever be included in the same breath: oral surgeon and breast surgery. For the gory details and descriptions like "cross-eyed nipples," you'll have to read King5's story yourself.
Your Degree, As Seen On TV
Turns out getting your degree from an "academic institution" that advertises heavily during Jerry Springer and in between Maury Povich's multiple declarations of "You are not the father" is not so helpful in the real world. Bates Technical College in Tacoma, one such institution, is in the midst of settling a suit brought by former students in the school's civil engineering technician and surveying program. Bates has agreed to pay $500,000 to 16 students who claim their degrees left them "embarrassingly unprepared" for employment.
