Strange Mercy: St. Vincent at Neptune Theater

Strange Mercy: St. Vincent at Neptune Theater

We're pleased to announce that we'll be spending this evening with the likes of St. Vincent--otherwise known as Annie Clark--tomorrow evening at the newly made-over Neptune Theater. Clark's name aptly comes from Saint Vincent Medical Center where poet Dylan Thomas spent his last days--"It's the place where poetry comes to die" she has said. more ›

Can't Miss It: Thursday

Can't Miss It: Thursday

IN HEAVEN: On her most recent St. Vincent album, this year’s Strange Mercy, singer/songwriter/electric guitarist Annie Clark did something many musicians don’t - she made her sound simpler. Sometimes complex arrangements, crammed samples, sound effects, and other manufactured accoutrements seem to be taking over. So we were happy to hear Clark focused on “getting the point across.” Don’t get the wrong idea though; her playing is innovative, sometimes dirty, and her words are thoughtful, dark, and strange. She’s even got a few live moves to shake things up on stage. Jackpot for the audience. With Cate Le Bon. more ›

Some nights you can tell who's here to see which band, but not this night. Seattlest got the impression that much of this crowd was like us: Here for The National, but also excited and curious to see what newcomer St. Vincent brings to the table. more ›

Saturday at Bumbershoot: Let's Hear It For the Girls

So we woke up with no intention of getting all Gloria Steinem on you early on a Sunday morning, but after searching for the tie that bound together our first day of Bumbershoot, we couldn't help but gloat that the women of Bumbershoot were kicking ass/taking names. more ›

Sasquatch Line Up Results in Creamed Panties

Sasquatch Line Up Results in Creamed Panties

Last year's Sasquatch line up was good, but not good enough to get us to spend three days at the Gorge. We still prefer the festival in its one-day, all-in-one-fell-swoop form, but with the lineup that's been announced for this year's two-day fest, we may just have to make the trip. Out of the two days, it was Saturday that really made us coo. Bjork *and* Arcade Fire? Consider us sold. There are still bands to be announced, but here's how things stand as of right now: more ›
