This Week In Theater: Buckled Swashes, Impish Delights and Halloween Ascendant

As we had discussed last week, this week sees an increase in horror and Halloween themed shows, but not to the exclusion of other productions. This week, we see a Fringe Theater stalwart bring the self-generative to the forefront, a classic tale presented for kids, a condensed operetta and the big Shakespeare company making with the shakey shake, and three can't miss productions that are perfectly in spirit with the coming holiday. more ›

Can't Miss It: Monday

Can't Miss It: Monday

With only three weeks to go before Halloween, it's only natural that two of our choices for this evening have a strong spooky or horrific angle. The third heralds the arrival of a cult synth pop legend who will be speaking at the Triple Door this evening. Really, you can't lose. more ›

Sounders 2, Houston 1 (OT)

Sounders 2, Houston 1 (OT)

Your Sounders advance to the finals of the U.S. Open Cup with this hard-fought, semifinal win over top rival Houston. The Rave Green looked likely to fall until a 89th minute goal from Nate Jaqua -- a Dynamo until this season. Stephen King got the go-ahead goal in the fourth minute of overtime, and the Sounders held on for the win. They'll play D.C. United for the Cup (and an automatic berth in the CONCACAF Champions League) on Sept. 2 in D.C. more ›

Sounders 2, Portland 1

Sounders 2, Portland 1

The Sounders advance to the U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals, silencing 16,000 Timbers fans with a first minute goal. Roger Levesque, the goal-scorer, mocked the fans with his goal celebration, pretending to fall like a tree with Nate Jaqua pantomiming a lumberjack. Sweet. Stephen King had the other goal. Match report. Next game 7/7, U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal vs. Kansas City at Starfire Sports Complex. more ›

A Bid for Immortality

A Bid for Immortality

Well, literary immortality, anyway. A gaggle of authors (some Seattlest-approved, some not-so-approved)- including Neil Gaiman, Stephen King, Dave Eggers, John Grisham, Lemony Snicket, Michael Chabon, and Jonathan Lethem- will be auctioning the chance to have the winning bidder's name included in their next work. Clearly, a win would be somewhat conditional- if you want to use a friend's name, you have to get permission, for instance- but they seem pretty accommodating. That said, if your name is Amanda Huggnkiss or Mike Hunt, you had probably better skip this one. more ›
