Last week, Darold Ray Stenson--initially scheduled to be lethally injected by the state today for killing his wife and his business partner back in the early '90s--received two last-minute stays that pushed the execution date back indefinitely. However, the U.S. Supreme Court reviewed the federal stay order and deemed it "not warranted"; as of this morning, at least one of Stensen's temporary reprieves has now been lifted. Because the state stay is still in effect, Stenson still doesn't have a new execution date and remains moldering at Walla Walla. He's got 90 days before Clallam County can try again to get the remaining stay of execution lifted by the Washington state Supreme Court.
