After starting out our night at The Thermals (a show that gave us exactly what we were hoping for, in terms of band and crowd energy), we stopped by Neumo's to catch The Budos Band, a Staten Island-based afro/funk/psych/soul eleven-piece outfit. Having just spent an hour sweatily jumping around at the edge of a minor league mosh pit, the scene at Neumo's was a bit of a tectonic shift. The crowd was laid back (let's just say that nag champa would not have been out of line on this occasion), there was plenty of room for dancing, and the music was groovin' and chill. more ›
