The Sounders finished out the regular season with a win, but the other football teams around town didn't fare as well.
Weekend Sports Roundup: Mix of Emotions Edition
Huskies are Defending Their 2005 Title Right Now
Following the Huskies win on Saturday, we declared that all we wanted next was an injury free Pac 10 Tournament.
Crimson and Gray vs. Cardinal in Pac-10 Tourney Tonight
The Cougs are still missing that killer instinct. Up 20 points and closing in on half time, Wazzu let the Oregon Ducks whittle away at the lead. With the 75-70 victory, Washington State will seek revenge against the Stanford Cardinal, who beat Arizona last night to advance to the semi-finals of the Pac-10 tournament.
For Huskies March Madness Starts (May End) Tonight
Today Seattlest welcomes our new sports correspondent to the fold. Drew Milam is a longtime Seattle resident who recently returned to the Emerald City after some time in the Bay Area, and claims to be super tight with fellow Santa Clara alum Steve Nash, Brandi Chastain and NFL referee Mike Carey. No word on if he got the gig because he is a Hillary supporter (pleasing Editor Kim) and a Garfield alum (pleasing Seattlest David).
Seattlest Caucusest, Pt. 2: Day of Caucus
Now that all votes are in, all caucuses adjourned, CNN declaring it all for Obama, here's how the day fared for our Seattlest contributors:
Seattlest Caucusest
We here at Seattlest really wanted to go out and caucus on Saturday, however, HBO is showing Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. So we made some calls, and the DNC gave us permission to hold a special caucus today. They even threw in a couple delegates that Utah wasn’t going to use:
Qwest Field: Where Hall-of-Fame Football Coaching Careers Go to Die
For the second year in a row, a legendary coach has ended his career with a loss at Qwest Field.
If Bill Nye Can Be a Victim of Stalking, Perhaps There's Hope For Us
We don't claim to be an expert on male attractiveness, but if forced to rank television personalities by hotness or notness--well, let's just say that Bill Nye, "The Science Guy", would be closer to Willard Scott than to Matt Lauer.
Stalk of the Town: Nov. 2-4, 2007
All of Seattlest will be struggling to remember that Sunday is the day we turn our clocks back one hour. We hope you remember too.
Crumbs & Dregs
Huskies Will Suck, Says Pac-10 Media
The Pac-10 media pre-season football poll is out--saw it first on the Husky football wonderland that is Bob Condotta's blog--and the Huskies are ninth. USC is a unanimous pick for first. Only Stanford will suck worse than the Huskies, according to the fourth estate.
Elsewhere in the Ist-a-verse
All across the Ist-A-Verse (or at least the American parts thereof), writers and editors are in the midst of enjoying their three-day weekend. But after the week we've all had, we feel like the break is not only needed, but deserved. Just look at everything we've been doing!
We Can Now Forget About Women's Basketball For Several Months
There are going to be some angry PR people in sports media land. The Storm have one big off-season story, who they will draft. That draft is today. But the Huskies completely stole their thunder by announcing picking their new women's coach. Weird...anyway, here's the scoop, courtesy of the Times.
Zags are Comfortable in Road Blues
1. Savvy and Scrappy Guard Play: neither the Zags or the Hoosiers rely on getting big points from big guys inside, so whichever team can get hot from three point range and defend the three the best will have an immediate advantage. The Zags experience gives them the edge.
Local Boys in the NCAAs
No, we can't root for the Huskies, but there are plenty of former kids who a few short years ago were playing in front of sparse crowds at some smelly high school gym, but in the next two days will play ball on a national stage:
Losing Look for Stanford
Stanford coach Trent Johnson, not happy after Kenny Brown committed the ultimate bailout foul, hacking the Dawgs' Adrian Oliver as Oliver shot a desperation three with the shot clock at 1. Oliver hit all three free throws, giving Washington an eleven-point lead. The Huskies won 64-52 [Times], [P-I], [San Francisco Chronicle]
Huskies' Growing Pains Are Painful For Our Appliances
After the Huskies' played the last five minutes of last night's game [Times, P-I, S.F. Chronicle] as if they'd been inhabited by the spirit of Mike Jensen, we got a little chippy with our Kenmore dryer and kicked the inanimate-ing shit out of it. The Dawgs are a young team, and psychological meltdowns happen. We're not too worried about the team, they actually played terrific for 35 minutes, especially the first half when they stayed...
'Zona Flogs Dawgs, Schedule Change Announced
Coach Romar changed his lineup tonight (bringing Quincy Pondexter and Justin Dentmon off the bench), and tightened his rotation (eliminating minutes for Hans Gasser, Artem Wallace and Brandon Burmeister). Still, a third straight loss for the Dawgs, 96-87 to Arizona.

Cougars Should Win Apple Cup, Husky Fans Will Yawn
As has been pointed out in the local media, in the same old boring and un-imaginative way (Ugh, we don't even know what this guy was trying to say), Saturday is the annual cross state match-up between Washington and Washington State.
Huskies Mutiny in Cyberspace
Last week, Tyrone Willingham told two seniors with a year of football eligibility remaining, kicker Michael Braunstein and DB Chris Hemphill, that they won't be on the team next year.

New on the Seattle Weekly's website--a page for the Weekly's "Street Team."
The Bad and the Ugly: Text Messages from a Loss to Stanford
In honor of Veterans Day, the Huskies played like the French army in today's loss to Stanford.
Huskies Lose To 19-Point Underdawg Stanford, 20-3
As an occasional Husky-watcher, we'll defer to Seattlest Seth on post-game analysis. But we can say that this was the single most boringly awful game we've ever seen at Husky Stadium. The Huskies assured us they weren't looking past the 0-9 Stanford Cardinal team. This afternoon, they looked past the entire football field. The talk show guys on the radio said they couldn't recall a more inept performance. It was like WWI trench warfare, with punters.
Speaking Tour: 11/8 - 11/14
>>>UW Forum for Science and Ethics Policy, 5:30pm. Dr. Dennis Schatz, VP for Education at the Pacific Science Center, cheerleads for “Making Science as Pervasive as Sports in Society.” His ulterior motive? It can only be to pack the Sonics off to Oklahoma and build our very own Exploratorium right here in Seattle, to which we say “Be Aggressive, Be Be Aggressive!” Free. UW Health Sciences Building, T-478.
You CAN watch the Husky/Arizona game
The Husky athletic department is doing great work--they've figured out how to televise tomorrow's Husky/Arizona game. No, it won't be on TV, but if you go to Hec Ed they will be showing the Arizona stadium feed there, mixed in with the Husky radio broadcast.
We'll Take Lucky, But We'll Also Watch Good
We're going to have to disagree with this assertion by the good folks at subscription site Dawgman.com. They're talking about the PAT block that helped UW beat Fresno State on Saturday.
CF Reed's Healthy Wrist Is Bad News for Stanford Grad
After M's centerfielder Jeremy Reed hurt his hand running into a wall last week, trainers x-rayed him and found a wrist fracture. He was to miss 6-8 weeks. Turns out that fracture is at least four years old, isn't serious, and all Reed really has is a sore hand. He should be ready for Opening Day.
Roy Wins Poy
Huskies forward Brandon Roy became only the second Husky (and more importantly, the first Garfield Bulldog) to win Pac-10 Player of the Year honors, beating out Cal-Berkeley forward Leon Powe.
