Two middle-aged men had been drinking and having good time until an argument broke out between the drinking buddies shortly after 2 a.m. this morning at Carlton Avenue South near South Bailey Street. The SPD Blotter reports the disagreement heightened when the 54-year-old suspect accused the 49-year-old victim of stealing something. Shortly thereafter, a witness hearing all the commotion stepped outside only to see the suspect stabbing the other man in the back multiple times. She immediately called 911, and the victim was transported to Harborview with life-threatening injuries. The suspect was detained by police and taken to King County Jail for investigation of assault. UPDATE: SPD Twitter says the victim died of his wounds.

Last night at 11:45 p.m. in Belltown, a man was stabbed for a) refusing to offer a cigarette when asked and b) possibly responding to racial slurs with racial slurs. The SPD Blotter narrates the contretemps: "The argument was sparked when one of the men asked the victim for a cigarette. The victim refused to give him one, and the suspect took offense, asking if the victim was unwilling to give him a cigarette because he was Black." And then: "The victim did not initially realize that he had been stabbed, but soon noticed that he was bleeding profusely."

Disturbing Violence for Today

Adding to this week's lamentable streak of violence, we woke up to find a report from Seattle 911 that a man had been killed in a hit-and-run accident last night near Cherry and Sixth in Downtown. The body was found just past midnight. According to the SPD Blotter, there are no witnesses at this point, but "officers observed a security camera on the east side of the Seattle Metropolitan Tower that might cover the intersection."

Teresa's former next door neighbor and friend Beth just emailed us that the South Park Community Center has graciously volunteered to host a candlelight memorial vigil so that friends and neighbors can gather and celebrate Teresa’s memory. "We will gather at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday July 23rd, on the South Park Community Center ball fields and share memories and celebrate Teresa’s life. If you would like to say a few words, there will be an opportunity to do so." There's a Facebook event page. The Seattle Times has a feature story on Teresa Butz, a South Park resident stabbed to death on Sunday by an assailant who entered an open window in her home.

Police are still looking for the attacker(s) who stabbed two men in the chest, early Wednesday morning over in the Eastlake neighborhood. One of the two attacks took place about 2:39 a.m. near the 1800 block of Eastlake Ave., leaving the victim with a life-threatening chest wound. While investigators estimate the second stabbing happened a half hour later, where the victim--whose condition is still unknown--was found 1814 Minor Avenue. Both men were taken to Harborview Medical Center.

The plus sides to working security at Southcenter Mall are that you probably get employee discounts (or the homie hookup) at the food court, you have all kinds of insider info on big news stories, and you get to use a radio to talk to your coworkers (always thrilling). The down side, of course, is that you are more likely than the average office worker to get stabbed in the line of duty. Last night, a plainclothes security guard at the Southcenter Sears store was knifed in the hand and arm by a man from Monroe who was trying to avoid getting detained for shoplifting. The consequence-shirker was subsequently arrested when the cops found him hiding in the bushes by the Outback Steak House.

  • Our hearts and all our positive thoughts go out to Amber at the Rainier Valley Post and her neighbors. The RVP, which has been tireless about covering neighborhood crime, has had violence strike far too close to home. Amber's neighbor was stabbed to death yesterday by another neighbor, the victim's husband.
  • Capitol Hill Seattle is still playing with Google Street View (no blame, we totally are too) and CHS stumbled upon an interesting scene on 12th Avenue street view. Looks like a parking cop is giving a lecture, surely an unpleasant moment for at least one party. It's frozen now for all to see.
  • Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone, West Seattle Blog is all about the next round of holidays. They have not one, but two posts about West Seattle Christmas lights, as well as a post about where in West Seattle to get your Christmas tree.

A confrontation in a downtown parking lot escalated into an all-out battle involving nearly 40 people, which took a SWAT Team and Gang Unit to quell. The incident occurred in the Bank of America Plaza parking lot on Fifth Avenue around 2 a.m. on Saturday morning. Two local women were taken to Harborview for injuries sustained in the fight--one had been stabbed and the other beaten.

Seattlest may be more attuned to these reports, since we spend the greater portion of our day browsing local news sites...but what is going on with the spate of stabbings in Western Washington? Every time we refresh the local news sites, it seems they are reporting a new fatal or near-fatal stabbing.

Despite a recent rash of violence surrounding America's Next Top Model in Seattle, this Seattlest decided it would be okay to host an ANTM-viewing party tonight. Though there was a fair amount of yelling two cycles ago because our hatred for Natasha and last cycle because our devotion to Heather (the model with Asperger's Syndrome), were not shared by our friends, we figured that since previous parties the wife organized took place without any stabbings or fisticuffs amongst the attendees, tonight's would be safe.

We always knew that Tyra Banks and her train wreck of a reality TV competition, America's Next Top Model (ANTM), was an acquired taste. You either love it (and like Seattlest, you only mention that to your closest friends...and you guys), or you hate it. But a Seattle woman took that disdain for Tyra and Miss Jay's crazy glitter eyebrows a little too far, when she stabbed an acquaintance for watching ANTM too loudly.
