Tonight, the nation's hardcore gamblers' eyes will be on Seattle as our fair burgh hosts Monday Night Football.

Washington State 70, Oral Roberts 54: Oral Roberts was the trendy upset pick--nearly 25% of ESPN users expected Wazzu to Coug it (by comparison, less than 5% had #3-seed Oregon losing)--but our faith in Wazzu didn't waver. Though it was close at halftime, we predicted that Wazzu would play their typical strangling defense to open the second half, and they proved us right, holding O-Rob to one field goal in the first six minutes of period two. The Cougs won going away. Wazzu continued their terrific offensive efficiency, committing only six (!) turnovers. Only Bobby Knight's Texas Tech Red Raiders committed as few on the tourney's first day, which should give you some insight into how good a coach Tony Bennett is.

--The Sonics will have an NBA all-star after all; Ray Allen's an injury replacement.

Bill Simmons (a.k.a. "The Sports Guy") of ESPN isn't impressed with the Seahawks' trade for Deion Branch.

Live from Highline (Burien) Stadium, it's two of the state's top running backs facing off--Kennedy's Nate Williams and Lincoln's Roman Pula. And, yes, we're shamelessly ripping off the Sports Guy's running-diary format.

To paraphrase (read: blatantly steal) from ESPN's The Sports Guy, there's comedy, there's high comedy, and then there's a Rainier Beach basketball game. For this school, a dynasty in state hoops, a basketball game is an event--a place to be seen as much as to see. Last night, at SPU's gym, Beach clobbered Seattle Prep by twenty points to win the Metro championship. The game was a study in contrasts--in clothes, in culture, in attitude. To wit:

The Seahawks are 6-2. Happy times! Let's let visions of Super Bowl rings and Gatorade showers dance through our heads.
