Not sure how often you make it out to Alki, but apparently there's a tiny Statue of Liberty on the beach over there that's falling apart. There's a group of people trying to recast the thing in bronze and by the looks of their fundraising meter they're almost there, but can we stop for a second and ask whether we can't come up with something better than a tiny Statue of Liberty?

The past holiday weekend offered a bevvy of Seattle activities, from the Folklife Festival to Sasquatch, to SIFF, and we’re sure there’s more. Well, we’re pretty sure, because some of us went to Canada instead. Just a quick jaunt to Vancouver on Sunday for some biking; perhaps we’d even try to catch the Bloc Party show that evening at the Commodore since somehow we’ve missed out on every other opportunity to see them in what has been a near blitzkreig of Bloc Party show dates in Seattle over the past few months.

While growing up on the streets of Detroit, we used to love the sounds of the city, with hip-hop mixing with rock mixing with Motown. The city was like a sonic melting pot where each walk to a Tigers game was an education in the music of the late 20th century. Okay, that's a lie. We've never actually been to Detroit, but it sure sounds neat. The band that best embodies the Detroit sound is the Detroit Cobras who bring a rawk sound played with righteous fury to standards from the 50's and 60's. This may sound a little weird and frankly it is, but these classic sounds are so flawless that they translate amazingly well into something very compelling.

With its portrayal of a tour gone awry and a band's refusal to admit it, we think Spinal Tap is one of the best rock-n-roll movies ever made. Come see the real-life version of the movie when the Ashlee Simpson World Tour stops by the Paramount on Thursday. From the Saturday Night Live Acid Reflux debacle to the booing at the Orange Bowl, this has been a tour for the ages. This is definitely a show high in comedic value. After the concert, you might want to sign the 'Stop Ashlee Simpson' petition, since in this world there are very few issues that Republicans and Democrats can agree on. As of this morning, there are still plenty of tickets available on Ticketmaster.
