Our sympathies are divided on this one. On the one hand, man would it suck to be flying back to Seattle with Little Miss Seattlest and booted off the plane in—of all godforsaken airports—Phoenix. We'd hate to rely on food from police officers, the kindness of Motel 6, and $2000 return tickets on Alaska Airlines. (Nothing wrong with Alaska, but a lot wrong with $2000.) King County Executive Ron Sims, the only local politician willing to give the smallest amount of daylight to Southwest Airlines' proposal to build a new terminal at Boeing Field, caved yesterday. One day after the Stranger reported the intimate connection (literally!) between a Southwest lobbyist and Sims' campaign manager (they are married), Sims announced at a news conference that he's rejecting both Southwest's proposal and Alaska's copycat one. If Southwest Airlines builds a passenger terminal at Boeing Field, as they proposed yesterday, your life will be better. Boeing Field is ten minutes closer to downtown, and the terminal would be small enough that the most aggravating aspects of air travel--parking, long lines, interminable delays--would be eliminated.
