Gallery: Chris Cornell at the Moore

Chris Cornell put on a hell of a show a few nights ago--simply by sitting in a chair and strumming a guitar. The event was highly anticipated by every attendee; this was completely obvious from the numerous drunken displays, including ejections from the venue due to... well, let's call it over indulgence and involuntary evacuation. Despite all the craziness, it was a great night of intimate music by one of Seattle's music mainstays. more ›

A Look at Record Store Day in Seattle + A Few Words with Minus the Bear

This Saturday marks what just might be a perfect day for more than a few music fans. As you've hopefully discovered before now, Saturday marks the third annual Record Store Day, which will be celebrated by a healthy array of stores across the state. In terms of local festivities, we're most excited to catch Minus the Bear playing a free in-store at the somewhat recently relocated Sonic Boom Capitol Hill (Live music starts at 2PM). more ›

Chris Cornell Screams; Will Anyone Listen?

Stunned and confused, we withheld comment on early 2008 reports that the former Soundgarden frontman would collaborate with hip-hop hitmaker Timbaland. Instead, we waited for a punch line. But the joke’s on us. Not only were those reports accurate, but the first fruits of the duo’s labor are now making the internet rounds….and they're sickly soft-pop sweet. Give "Long Gone" ("ft. Timbaland") a listen. (Listen closely and you may hear Kim Thayil laughing.) The album, Scream, will be released this fall. Cornell has described it as having a "psychedelic aspect," not unlike Dark Side of the Moon. Seattlest doesn't hear that in "Long Gone," but we do hear a former rock icon slipping sadly into over-produced irrelevance. more ›

Sub Pop's 20th Birthday Bash Set For July

We clued you in to this last October, but now it's official: Sub Pop Records is celebrating its 20-year existence with a three-day comedy and music festival July 11-13. And the (initial) lineup, though weighted more heavily in the hipster-ish now, features a few super acts from the label's big then. more ›

Gruntruck, Skin Yard Singer Ben McMillan Passes Away

Before there was Soundgarden or Mudhoney or Alice in Chains, there was Skin Yard and Gruntruck, two late-80s-spawned bands that foretold and influenced Seattle's grunge phenomenon. Ben McMillan, who died here yesterday of complications stemming from diabetes, fronted both bands. He was 46. more ›
