Sound Off on Timbers Kit, SuperDraft Outcomes, Supplemental Draft Prospects

Sound Off on Timbers Kit, SuperDraft Outcomes, Supplemental Draft Prospects

Seattle Weekly is knocking down the Timbers for the MLS expansion team's away jerseys, which are as green as the pine trees that make Seattle the Emerald City. Granted, Portland has these same damn trees—they're on the Oregon license plate, even—but apparently having an older MLS team (if not an older city, nor a city with a green flag) somehow makes us more entitled to the color. It is a fair point that a Seattle-based company (Alaska Airlines, which has some sweet fares to Mexico at the moment) has its logo splashed all over the Portland team's jersey, but that's not exactly the Timbers' fault, and what can you expect from a company that's not even located in its namesake state? Not every company-city combo can be as tight as Microsoft-Seattle...er, Redmond. more ›

Can't Miss It: Thursday

Can't Miss It: Thursday

ROCK OF LOVE: Volunteer organization Seattle Works makes positive civic action as easy as it can possibly be. Volunteer, show up, do good. Kids, women at risk, food banks, education and conservation causes all benefit from Seattle Works volunteers. For nearly 21 years, the organization has given 20- and 30-somethings endless opportunities to help improve Seattle and themselves. They have 14 projects in August alone. There are a dozen in September. Tonight's opportunity is a little bit different. Team Up for Nonprofits presents Gigs4Good, a music event with proceeds benefiting Seattle Works. The night features musician Alex Mercier, Thick as Thieves, and local group Bekker. Olympic speed skating medalist J.R. Celski will be in attendance. It won't be manual labor, but it'll be fun anyway. Show up, do good. more ›
