The nose-breaking incident of Seattle self-proclaimed superhero Phoenix Jones made Saturday Night Live's weekend update segment. As Weekend Update faux-anchor Seth Meyers quipped, "it seems evil has figured out Phoenix Jones's only weakness: weakness."

Weekend Sports Roundup: Niners and Tiger and Bears...
Ever since Thanksgiving, it’s been a nice couple of weekends in sports. Unless you’re the world’s #1 golfer/douchebag.
Go See Dan Aykroyd, But Not for the Vodka
We’re not trying to dissuade you from meeting Dan Aykroyd! We just suggest you focus on what’s truly and awesomely bizarre about him: his UFO obsession.
Live from New York, It's the Fleet Foxes
According to last weekend's Saturday Night Live, this Saturday's episode will be hosted by crazy Republican (in that it's crazy she's a Republican) Rosario Dawson, along with the first SNL appearance by musical guest Fleet Foxes. Claims NME, "The Seattle indie rockers will be just the sixth band from an independent label to snag the coveted spot on the legendary US television show in its more than 30-year history." No word as to whether Robin Pecknold will pull a Taylor Swift and bring his bedazzled guitar.
Neighborhood News and Local Blog Roundup
- West Seattle Blog has the latest update on Nickelsville. WSB also pointed us to a Nickelsville Google Group where residents and supporters are posting updates and minute-to-minute news.
- MyBallard has photos of hygiene stations planned for neighborhood homeless car camps. Maybe Mayor Nickels could talk to some Ballard community activists about options for homeless residents, at least Ballard seems to be dealing with the issue in a humane way.
- The most interesting meta post we've seen in an eternity: the strange (and occassionally yucky) search terms that lead folks to Tacoma's crime blog, Lights & Sirens.
Neighborhood News and Local Blog Roundup
- A couple of Seattle's finest neighborhood blogs are also covering Nickelsville. Blogging Georgetown and West Seattle Blog are both giving thorough coverage to the story.
- Did someone say gumbo? Honest to god, Louisiana-made gumbo in Seattle? Hallelujah! The Central District News has a glowing (tummy-grumble-inducing) review.
- Ballard High graduate Jean Smart won an Emmy last night and MyBallard celebrates the news. In other once-local celebrity news, according to the Big Blog, UW Alumni Anna Faris will host SNL this weekend.
Britney Spears Obit, Already in Progress
So the lovely and talented Britney Spears has reached that beautiful moment in a young celebrity's life when the media decides they need to draft your obituary. Yes, it seems the AP has concluded that Ms. Spears' mortality is sufficiently imminent they need to prepare for the story. Of course, drafting an obit in advance is an industry-wide practice, but for a 26-year-old? Of course, 27 is just that by kicking the stool out from under her sometime before Dec. 2, 2008.
Battle of the Hot Guys on Idol
Well, in case you missed the paper, the television, and all the blogs in the world last week, Sanjaya is off American Idol. When Ellen Degeneres asked him on her Monday show who his favorite is to win Idol this year, he dodged it awkwardly by saying Ellen is his favorite.
What Do We Love About Fantagraphics? Their Humble Nature
Ah, oral history. A genre built to tell the stories of SNL, porn films, and whatever piqued Studs Terkel's curiosity this week.
Mid-Evening Anti-Catechism
"Are you disappointed that more people aren't converting to atheism after seeing your show?" That (loosely paraphrased) was the question that kicked off Ira Glass' conversation with Julia Sweeney on Saturday night. "No. I'm not really that conceited," replied Sweeney. (Again, paraphrased. We did not smuggle in a recording device.)
Seattle Nostalgia Wave Breaking
Alice In Chains announced a tour schedule recently. No Layne, a duh, but the rest of the guys are doing a club tour of the states with venues like the Bowry Ballroom, the Metro and the Roxy scheduled. We don't care about New York, Chicago and L.A., you say, we want to know where they'll be playing in Seattle. Not on the list. After their appearance in NYC at the end of May they'll be going overseas to play more clubs and festivals through the end of August. No Seattle.
Remember to Honk When You Drive By... Hey! Where's Fonk!?!
Last week while driving down Stone Way, hand poised over horn, we were surprised and somewhat dismayed to see that Vern Fonk Insurance had closed shop. However, a quick check at the Fonk site indicated that the office had only moved to a newlocation. As a result, because of Fonk's horn-blowing slogan, we imagine their old neighbors are relieved to have them gone, just as their new neighbors are probably preparing a lawsuit.
Seattlest Interview: Dusty Warren
With SketchFest Seattle chugging into its final weekend, we had a sit-down with Dusty Warren. Seattlest figured he'd be a good guy to talk to, as he's been performing sketch comedy in Seattle since 2000 and is a member of two groups performing this weekend. First there's Flaming Box of Stuff---they just returned from New York where they were a part of a HBO showcase at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre---and then there's the two-man group Champagne.
