Ping! Exclamation Point!

Anyone that has worked for, with, or anywhere near "the man" should dislike the word ping. It's too easy to immediately associate the word with a bothersome, middle aged project manager saying, "Let me look into that and I'll ping you." Why can't you just say email? Why?

Fans of the Ignite Seattle tech event series who are less enthused about the fact that everyone's a fan of Ignite Seattle should probably check out Thingamajiggr. Thingamajiggr sounds like it's Ignite + tickets, somewhat. Organizer Brady Forrest of O'Reilly Radar says that there will be some short talks at the beginning, but it's more of a social party than Ignite. There will be SMS game experiments going on, there are DJs scheduled, some art, and a "Hacker Magic Show." Our kind of event. It's this Friday 8pm-2am and tickets are $15 (discount code "thingamaparty"--buy now because there are limited tickets and it's going to be announced in other places soon.)

A part of us can sympathize. Every time we're in a mall (which, thankfully, turns out to be infrequently) we can grin and shuffle through the crowd for a while, jumping from Express to the Gap to JC Penny and aquiring giant bags for tiny items as we go, but at some point during the excursion we're bound to get that "gun waving lunatic" crick in our neck that begins to slowly work its way towards our brainstem. So far we've managed to make a break for the parking lot thereby diffusing it before it's been able to manifest as action.
