This week Seattlest was in the mood for something quick, easy and cheap. Thanh Vi has been on our list of places to try for awhile now, but it has the unfortunate location of being next door to Sichuanese Cuisine--a restaurant we adore. We keep intending to go to Thanh Vi, but invariably end up at Sichuanese Cuisine. This time we stuck to our guns and ate at Thanh Vi. Okay, we're lying. We're really bad at sticking to our guns. We only went to Thanh Vi because there was a really long line at Sichuanese Cuisine.
Relish: Thanh Vi
Relish: Sichuanese Cuisine
Seattlest loves Chinese food, but has been spoiled rotten by our (Chinese) grandma's home cooking. We had given up, several years ago, on finding a restaurant that could compare. But then we met our downstairs neighbor who took Seattlest out to Sichuanese Cuisine and, dare we say it? Found some of the dishes to be just as good as grandma's...
Relish: Tamarind Tree
The last time Seattlest went to Sichuanese Cuisine, we noticed a fancy looking Vietnamese restaurant around the corner and added it to our mental list of places to check out. A few weeks later, we found ourselves in the ID and craving Vietnamese food. Tamarind Tree is located in the back of the Asian Mall on the corner Jackson and 12th. It's not exactly a pretty area, so walking into the restaurant was a little jarring. Seattlest couldn't believe how atmospheric and intimate the restaurant was with its dim lighting and high(er)-end décor. We certainly didn't expect to find a place like this in the heart of the ID.
