Seventeen teams showed up at the Old Pequliar last night to see if our voice would give out. We managed to get through the evening without having a Peter Brady moment, but we're grateful to those of you who were willing to step up to the mic at a moment's notice.

Seattlest James took a time-out from showering the Nickels administration with Gwen Stefani tickets and El Gaucho gift certificates to host the quiz last night at the Old Pequliar.

Last week at Seattlest trivia, fourth-place team The Fookin' As requested Marvel Comics as a theme for a round this week. So if you're coming to the Old Pequliar, bring a comic book geek friend -- or at least skim the Marvel Comics page on Wikipedia.

When we asked which Mariner hit the game winning home run on Opening Day in 1986 we felt we had come up with a question that would stump the room. However, when we saw that nearly half teams correctly answered Jim Presley we realized that we weren't the only ones to have their childhood ruined by the boys in blue and yellow.
That's the reason we're using Speakeasy right now to upload this post -- because Qwest, while in fact servicing the building we work in, does not realize that it services the building we work in. We tried to convince Qwest salespeople that they do, but they refused to believe it and transferred us to an engineer who could explain why they didn't. Researching, the Qwest engineer found out they did and offered to set us up, but then their phone system dropped our call and since we'd been transferred there, we had no way to get back. Enter Speakeasy.
"Who are you guys?" asked a team correcting their quizzes.
We -- that is, Seattlest James -- appeared on KPBS's A Way With Words this weekend, playing their slang quiz. You can listen online -- our segment starts about half an hour in. We had to figure out what grinder (not the sandwich), mamisma, and golden birthday meant.

Nope, blame Seattlest trivia regulars NAMBLA, who always come up with the most twisted (and often the funniest) team name of the night. Fast Times at NAMBLA Elementary's fourth-place finish last week meant they got to pick the theme of a round this week. Their chosen theme: Famous Pedophiles. BASKETBALL: It's a battle for first place in Kingco's Mountain Division when Roosevelt hosts Redmond.
COMICS: Local cartoonist salon Friends of the Nib, founded by Jim Woodring, will create a work of narrative sequential art right before your eyes. You may purchase a copy of said art at the end of the evening.
