Sounders Sign Calabro; Announce KING-5 Deal

Long-time voice of the Sonics Kevin Calabro has been named play-by-play voice of Seattle Sounders FC, which begins MLS play in March 2009. Calabro called Sonics games for 21 years, and also worked NBA games nationally with TNT, TBS, NBA TV and ESPN Radio. Calabro declined to move with the Sonics when the team relocated to Oklahoma City earlier this year. Sounders FC also announced KING-5 and KONG-6/16 will telecast all Sounders FC games, except those aired nationally. We can hear it now: "BOOM-shaka-laka! DAY-VID Beckham...with a nasty cross to the RACK!"

Sounders Advance in U.S. Open Cup

The Seattle Sounders will advance to the semifinals of the U.S. Open Cup after defeating the Kansas City Wizards 1-0 in quarterfinal play at Qwest Field Tuesday night. Play was scoreless after regulation time and 30 minutes of extra time, leading to an exciting penalty kick shoot-out, with the Sounders winning 6-5 on Zach Scott's PK conversion. The Sounders now advance to the face USL-squad Charleston Battery on Aug. 12 in a road showdown. The Battery recently defeated the Sounders 1-0 on July 5 in USL action. more ›

Sounders Face KC Wizards Tonight

The Seattle Sounders face MLS-club Kansas City Wizards in the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open Cup tonight at Qwest Field. The tournament pits top professional and amateur clubs from across the country. The Seattle Times is reporting that KC may be planning to field a reserve squad, due to scheduling considerations.
