This weekend, rock out to the songs of Stevie Wonder, wander throughout Ballard while enjoying an amazing schedule of local bands, and make your voice heard as part of a movement, a moment.
Can't Miss It: The Weekend
Sasquatch Gallery: Seattle Rock Orchestra, Pepper Rabbit and Matt & Kim!
It's undeniable, Matt and Kim put on one of the best shows out there. We've seen them more than a couple times and every one of them feels as if it's the first time. Kim's unceasing smile and enthusiastic drumming are complimented by Matt's kicks and huge grin behind the keyboards. To top it off they threw empty balloons into the audience for fans to blow up and bounce around at a specified time bringing on an instant party. It's pretty obvious from the photos they have an incredible time performing and we have just as much fun watching.
Sasquatch Gallery: Sneak Peek Day 2
Day two of Sasquatch music festival didn't slow down even an inch. What an incredible day of music and weather. More than a few of us were red as lobsters at the end of the day, but it was completely worth it. From Wye Oak to Matt and Kim, Iron and Wine to Death Cab for Cutie you couldn't ask for a more incredible day of music all jam-packed into one tiny little gorge. Ok, maybe not so tiny. Looking forward to showing you every amazing shot captured over this long musical weekend.
Seattle Rock Orchestra Plays Radiohead This Saturday
Okay, so, you're sitting at home, enjoying some Radiohead and you're thinking to yourself, "I could really use some more orchestra up in here." Well, the Seattle Rock Orchestra has made your dream a reality. This Saturday at the Moore Theatre the 50-piece orchestra will be taking on the very influential Radiohead. Specifically, they will be performing songs from The Bends and OK Computer. And they've arranged an all-star lineup of guest singers including Rachel Flotard (Visqueen), John van Deusen (The Lonely Forest), Tom Beecham (the Raggedy Anns), Kaylee Cole, Jim Antonio (The Purrs), Jon Auer (The Posies), Roberto Carlos Ascalon, Noah Gunderson (the Courage), and Michele Khazak.
Can't Miss It: Thursday
MIDDLE EASTERN EXPOSURE: All the way from Kabul, ladies and gentlemen, Tamim Ansary! He's in town to talk about his book Destiny Disrupted, which is like his World According to the...well, Islamic World. Spanning the time from Mohammed to the fall of the Ottoman Empire and more, he tells a counter-narrative of cultural progress in which the rise of the West kinda, you know, sucks. The San Francisco Chronicle calls the book “an indispensable guide," while the Oregonian says it is "vivid, often wrenching."
Get Out Thursday: Jeremy Enigk at Neumo's
Every Seattle musician or music appreciator respects the work of Jeremy Enigk. The erstwhile lead singer of seminal (and possibly reuniting?) emo band Sunny Day Real Estate and The Fire Theft, Jeremy has since released four solo albums (five, if you count The End Sessions, which we don't). Thursday's the CD release show at Neumo's for his latest album OK Bear, which just came out two days ago. All the press materials on the new album mention that it's "less orchestral" than previous efforts, which makes it extra-ironical that he's playing with the Seattle Rock Orchestra, a full-fledged thirteen-piece orchestra (hence the name, duh), with instrumentation like that found on his first solo album, everyone's precious Return of the Frog Queen. So this is your chance to hear those songs live in their original lush form, as well as the new stuff getting the same grandiose treatment. For a taste, check out the Monday afternoon KEXP session Thursday morning at 8 a.m. (and if it's after 8, hit up the archive).
