Jason over at Eat Sleep Publish has a beautiful post on net neutrality and the old vs. new economy. In Greenwood, the Food Network stopped by with cameras and Guy Fieri to film at Georgia's Greek Deli; PhinneyWood has photos. Don't try to pawn off your foreign currency on Washington state ferries, because they're not having it, reports Seattle Metblogs. Even if it is Canadian. Even Canadian quarters. Not allowed. And Slog is thinking about shoplifting, Whole Foods, and sausages in pants. (As are we all.)

- CHS datamined the scoop on the newest new restaurant to hit Odd Fellows Hall, Tin Table: "We believe that food and wine should be an experience for the senses and a festival to spirit."
- Seattle Metblogs realized the hard, concrete fact that we all probably have been trying to avoid stubbing our emotional toe on: a decision on what to do about the Viaduct will never arrive. (In the meantime, Ballard is still holding out for a tunnel.)
- TechFlash reported on Amazon's economy-defying holiday traffic surge--their traffic was up 7 percent compared to December 2007. Though we wonder how much of that was Seattleites checking to see where their snowbound packages were.
Party-planning troika Seattlest and Seattle Metblogs, and CHS want to hold a special BlogsGiving Evening (TM) around mid-November, and we're soliciting suggestions for a venue that can hold about 75-100 thirsty and slightly hungry people and their iPhones, laptops, and digital cameras. If you or a venue you know would like to be part of this evening to benefit inter-blog amity and a local food bank, please drop us a line: editor at seattlest.com. Our operators are standing by!
Damien Jurado did that thing he does at Neumos last night. We always felt like this kind of stuff would make for perfect incidental music for the slow motion epiphany moment in movies where the hated-on underdog character finally realizes that he is in fact a bad ass, and then savors in slow motion the anticipation of imminent ass kicking - but maybe we're just projecting. There exists enough of a soft spot in the collective Seattlest black heart of hate for this music that we can enjoy snide smack downs like this, and even agree somewhat with hate like this - "But if you'd spent your entire musical career trawling the same highway, always stuck between gears, you'd be tired, too... wallowing, as ever, in romantic stagnancy..." and yet still continue to appreciate the man's work without our tastes feeling threatened in the least. Anyway, the show was basically good, with a more dreamy and contemplative sound than most of the live music we usually see.
We were driving down Broadway at noon and spotted huge puffballs of soapy bubbles blowing across the street from the fountain in front of the Kinko's. Saturday night, Seattle Metblogs reports, there was a whole "foam party." Plus, a nearby resident tells us the fountain was red foam this morning. That's three things, and three things is, scientifically speaking, a trend. But we also have back-up evidence gleaned from the internet: "Foam Parties are the newest craze among Teens and College Students!" Everyone, foam on.
Friday night Seattlest headed to Neumos for the sold out Silversun Pickups show and Sunday we headed to the Paramount for the sold out Modest Mouse show (the latter courtesy of the ticket provided by Seattle Metblogs - thanks!). Ordinarily we'd split the reviews into separate posts but in this case the same lesson applies to each band so we've opted to combine them.
When Seattlest walked in the doors to Chop Suey for the Kinky show last night, we immediately wondered if we'd been transported to some other dimension where everyone at Chop Suey was smiling, talking, and happy. Really really happy. This is not our beautiful house, we thought...who the hell are all these fun, casually gorgeous people and are we really in Seattle?
Yesterday we did a post on Mars Hill and their big article on Salon.com and we definitively established that they're a cult in the comments. So that's settled. Today we've got to mention them again because the Mars Hill blog announced overnight that they'll be up and running in West Seattle on October 1st, but it won't be at their new facility out there because it won't be ready in time. For the time being they'll be holding services at Chief Sealth High School. West Seattle Blog wonders if anyone will care about this comingling of church and state.
Dylan at Seattle Metblogs is almost as triviacentric as we are -- he's started a new series, "The Knowledge," asking 10 Seattle-related trivia (or esoterica) questions each week or so. This week: People.
Below are ten people. Please explain why they are (in)famous or (un)important in Seattle.Continue reading "Turns Out We Really Don't Know that Much About Seattle After All"
