We've been hitting shows on the Seattle music scene for about four years now, and if there's one thing we can say with certainty, it's that Seattle doesn't need more musicians, it needs ones. Such may be the consolation of learning that next week, the Seattle chapter of Paul Green's School of Rock opens. If Green's now famous "school" can help create a new generation of musicians whose influences go deeper than Green Day, that alone will be an achievement.

In previewing Monday night’s Macage Harybu Trio show, we admitted that we don’t know jazz from Shinola. What’s more, we really don’t like the stuff. (This stuff, anyway.) Truth be told, if Matt Cameron wasn’t one-third of the act, we wouldn’t have driven to Northgate’s intimate Seattle Drum School to see them play.

Seattlest doesn't know crap about jazz. (Until we recently drank a Brother Thelonious, we thought Monk was actually a dude in an orange robe.) But staple a big-time Seattle rock drummer (above, going off solo) to a jazz act and we're interested enough to listen and learn.

MUSIC: The L.A.B. at Seattle Drum School hosts a birthday party for the wife of one of the dudes in Chicken Starship. It's all-ages, so there's no booze, but there will be birthday cake. Considering John Moe's in the band and the entrance fee go towards funding the school, we'll give the lack of alcohol a pass.
