These are, you'd think, the pertinent numbers about Washington Mutual's 2007. Stock price at start of 2007: 45.40 Stock price at end of 2007: 13.07 But apparently the 71% drop in stock price is not among the criteria by which Washington Mutual judges its executives, because those executives will get six-figure bonuses for last year, reports Drew DeSilver of the Seattle Times. Chief Operating Officer Stephen Rotella gets $912,000 for chiefly operating WaMu to its......

In case you missed it on Monday, British Columbia Liberals announced a $14 billion transit upgrade plan. The Vancouver region already has the 49-kilometre SkyTrain system - the longest automated transit system in the world. But Mr. Campbell yesterday committed to about 30 kilometres of new SkyTrain-style and light-rapid-transit lines, plus bus systems elsewhere in the province, and $1.6-billion for 1,500 new clean-technology buses to increase the provincial fleet by about 60 per cent. B.C.......

Photo by Seattle Daily PhotoFollowing up on yesterday’s front page P-I article lamenting the perilous relationships between pedestrians and automobiles, Seattlest would like to nominate the 5-way intersection and Monorail crossing at Fifth and Denny as a candidate for next year’s list of dangerous Seattle crossings. Seattlest has witnessed--and dodged--more than a few accidents at the non-blinking, unlighted crosswalk across Fifth Avenue, which also contains a mid-road Monorail pillar. Pedestrians must rely on their agility......

Peter Steinbrueck, a soon-to-be--former City Council member, announced legislation today that would require all city departments that review the environmental impacts of projects to take greenhouse gas emissions into account. Besides the fact that it's kind of crazy that they don't already do that, we think this is a great idea. It's great because it's an attempt to take into account and limit all of those emissions that are usually ignored as too hard to......

We weren't able to take advantage of last week's free coffee giveaway at Liberty, so we stopped by the cafe/bar/sushi restaurant to purchase a cup today. We'd been there last October for a latte and were less than impressed, and we still haven't gone back for drinks ever since the bad service fiasco we endured nearly a year ago (never forget the events of 5/11). Even now, when we pass by the crowded bar......
