Along with our favorite purveyors of Seattle goof rock, BOAT and Aqueduct, we were delighted when one of our or newest favorite pop rock imports--who happen to also have an aquatic name--self-released their third offering just about one month ago. The Seattle by-way-of-Boston trio The Sea Navy have continued to fine-tune their craft of producing tunes that should delight fans of the Cold War Kids, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists and catchy pop rock

We'll take it for granted that you will get pleasantly buzzed on nutritious, delicious microbrews at this year's Fremont OktoberFest, which might as well be called BeerFest. Someone else will have to fill you in about all the different kinds of beer this weekend (we heard there would be something like thirty breweries serving up!) at another time, though, because we would prefer to discuss the excellent local music offerings at this event. Seattle's ramping up for fall, which will come sooner rather than later; this is the perfect time to find a couple new local bands to love this winter.
Long spoken of and rarely acted upon, the renovation and remodeling of The Seattle Center was again on the docket for Monday's City Council meeting. Center officials presented a number of new design ideas for the redevelopment of the Center. Central to these are the demolishing of Memorial Stadium and The Fun Forest. Proposed uses for the space include a new outdoor amphitheatre to replace Memorial Stadium, a brand new Center House, and plans to turn the asphalt of the Fun Forest into green space.
The Georgetown Music Fest is the main game in town this weekend and if you're looking to see local music on Saturday or Sunday you'll almost certainly be there at some point. Or you can head back to the Gorge for John Mayer and Ben Folds. Your call. We'll be in Georgetown, and we're specifically looking forward to Voyager One's Saturday night set:
October is here! That means candy apples, inappropriate costumes, and tons of live music.
Musical relationships are like any other; they have an initial period of euphoria followed by the shift into reality, and from there the relationship either continues to grow or it dies. They're prone to the same tendencies, the same awkwardness, the same needs for "time apart." And as in the rest of life, it's often nice to revisit with old flings to see how they're doing.
Once upon a time about a hundred blog years ago Seattlest tried doing an 'MP3 of the Week' post, um, weekly. Possibly it lasted two or three weeks. Those were glorious weeks, sure, and the mp3's were flying for those few posts, but, of course, the well of decent tracks dried up and the feature died. One of those posts was around the holidays and featured a holiday song by Jay Cox of the Sea Navy that was super fun. We just listened to it again: still fun lo these many months from the holidays.
People will email Seattlest with random crap fairly often. "Please check out my potato collection," or "Just thought you should see my new site dedicated to potato collecting." Some of it we check out (that's a lot of potatos, and they look fantastic in that cabinet in the bathroom) and some of it we ignore. This week we got an email from Jay Cox of local rock band The Sea Navy alerting us to the fact that he'd written a holiday song and that it was available for listening on his site. This is the kind of email that makes Seattlest feel like an six-year-old on Christmas morning.
Seattlest saw and loved Ted Leo + Pharmacists at Neumo's right after the election last fall. It made the bummer better.
