Courts Prepare for Church Sex Abuse Trial

Civic duty calls for a lucky few in King County, as jury selection process begins in the sex abuse trial against the Seattle Catholic Archdiocese. The lawsuit filed by two men accuses the Catholic church of failing to prevent and protect them from the sexual abuse inflicted--nearly 30 years go--by Father Patrick O'Donnell, an admitted child molester. Across the nation, most cases involving the church's sex abuse scandals have been settled privately, while the Seattle Catholic Archdiocese sex abuse lawsuit is set to become one the few exceptions that will actually go to trial. All eyes (even from above) will be watching. more ›

Fredy Free from Scandal--For Now

The Sounder's beloved all-star, Fredy Montero will be back on the field scoring goals--and keeping the soccer ball away from our Keller-less net--soon, but not soon enough for fans. Montero's recent lady troubles landed him in the King County Prosecutors "penalty box," up until yesterday. Citing insufficient evidence to support allegations of rape, the prosecutors announced they were not going to file charges against Montero. more ›

Stop The Presses, We've Got A Honey Problem

The P-I's big, splashy story today is on the crucial problem of "honey laundering," a horrific pun which made us snicker and then cry a little bit. The issue is that certain nefarious companies are shipping sub-par and potentially contaminated honey out of China on its way to the U.S. markets, stopping at intermediary shipping points (Vietnam, for instance) to alter the documents to make it look like said honey didn't actually come from China. The sweet goods are then slipped across our borders, where the P-I's investigation showed that officials can be less than hyper-vigilant about inspections. People might get sick. The other point of interest is that apparently the FDA has no legal definition for honey. (Seriously? Form a committee at once.) more ›

Amanda Knox--the Other Neverending Story

Amanda Knox--the Other Neverending Story

The Amanda Knox case, similar to Hillary Clinton's campaign for the Democratic nomination, seems to be never-ending. It boggles the mind how Knox still sits uncharged in an Italian jail while evidence continues to build that she is likely innocent. Just like the Hillary campaign, the Italian police seem to be continuously denying the most recent evidence and plodding on the course they planned to take all along: Hillary will be President, Amanda Knox will be guilty. more ›

Boston Ladies Love Sonics Front Office Men

Boston Ladies Love Sonics Front Office Men

Our Boston siblings brought our attention to yet another oddity in the Seattle Sonics saga. From our own paper, mind you:

"For months, a Boston-area woman thought she was dating a Sonics front-office employee and former NBA player named Jeff Turner, a handsome, 6-foot-8 40-something who was polite, compassionate and respectful."
But, of course, it was a flim flam and the aptly named Ronnie Craven was revealed to be neither Jeff Turner nor a Sonics employee. He was just some guy from a place still called "Slummerville" by the snootier denizens of Boston proper. more ›

Today in Seattle Stripping News

Today in Seattle Stripping News

Maybe the Magnolia housemates should have just gone to a strip club. On the other hand, federal agents and local police raided three different strip clubs in Seattle earlier today as part of an ongoing racketeering investigation. The strip clubs, including Rick's on LCW and Sugar's in Shoreline, are owned by Frank Colacurcio Sr., the man at the center of Seattle's own Strippergate. There's no word on whether or not the raided strip clubs are open for business today, but as our friends on Magnolia learned the hard way...that's not necessarily a good reason to arrange a stripper housecall. more ›
