Police have rounded up and arrested key players from Tuesday's deadly Wal-Mart shooting and armored truck robbery. One of the suspects, a female Wal-Mart employee, has led police to believe that the perfectly timed robbery was a serious inside job. Sadly, the police note that the violence was intentionally planned; without any hesitation, one gunman killed Loomis armored guard Kurt Husted with a single shot. Today, the "key players," three men and a woman, are expected to appear in court charged with murder, robbery, and assault charges. More arrests could be made, as the police currently have an additional four suspects being held in custody for planning the robbery.

Seattle 911 reports that there was a shooting during an armored truck robbery at the Lakewood Wal-Mart, leaving the truck driver dead and possibly a second Loomis employee injured. The two shooters fled in what may have been a white four-door sedan. (Thanks for narrowing things down, eyewitnesses.) NWCN/KING says, "The suspects are described as black males. One is 6 feet tall with an average build wearing a white hat with colored trim across the bill, a long sleeve white shirt and black pants. The second suspect is 6-feet to 6-feet 2-inches tall. He is wearing a blue baseball hat and a blue short sleeve button up short over a white t-shirt and blue jeans."

What a breaking news afternoon we're having. We were alerted by @thesouthlake's tweet about a 3:30 p.m. bank robbery at the WaMu at 5th and Union downtown. KING 5 says the robber says he left a bomb behind, which means he has also left a lot of snarled traffic behind. The suspect is "in his 30s with no facial hair and no glasses," which leaves us out because we're wearing glasses and have been all day. Anyway, that block of 5th is shut down until they sort it out.

  • The Magnolia Voice wonders if Nickelsville organizers will still face fines regarding the encampment, despite reaching an agreement with the city.
  • MyBallard is still a reliable source for all things quirky and Scandinavian; so we trust them when they say that today is Leif Erickson Day and the appropriate way to celebrate is by donning some sort of Nordic sweater.
  • Franklin High School's football team was robbed during a recent match at Rainier Beach High School. Not like robbed on the field of a win, but robbed like their personal property was stolen. The Rainier Valley Post has all the details.

Leah Slemmer knows from breaking the law. She’s been arrested nearly as many times (49) as years she’s blessed the planet with her presence (54). On Wednesday, she failed to reach the half-century mark (unless the Times’ curiously incongruous story is accurate) when a state trooper was too busy to drag her sorry ass to jail.

A double amputee robbed a Spokane bank branch Monday, one week after a single amputee did the same, according to the AP.

Microsoft sent out invitations to its video community website beta Soapbox on Monday and last night we got around to checking it out. The interface is awesome, the video quality is awesome and the price they paid in development is probably somewhere under what Google paid for YouTube. The content and the user base... Well, there is no content or user base. Did Microsoft ever seriously consider buying YouTube's content and user base? Check out Ballmer's Business Week interview on the subject. He thinks it's a fad and there's no business model. "Is YouTube really some permanent, long-term thing, or is it a fashion?" and "Right now, there's no business model for YouTube that would justify $1.6 billion."

Seattle-based Fortune 500 companies have been getting a lot of attention from Consumerist lately -- first Starbucks, now WaMu:

Washington Mutual Inc. says it moved tellers out from behind counters to encourage "friendly customer service in a welcoming retail environment," a design it proudly patented.

Breaking the law, breaking the law We -ist folks love us some crime, and no misdemeanor is too petty for a post on any of our sites. This week, join us for a rogues' gallery of miscreants major, minor, and alleged.

San Francisco is proud host of a new reality show called "How to Get the Guy" that's unfortunately not a descendant of Will and Grace, Queer Eye, The L Word, American Idol etc. Also a biodefence lab is coming to the East Bay and SFist teaches wine pairing.

Seattlest was outside the walls recently (Lynnwood) and we managed to catch an earful on the state of Seattle as seen by the right side of the political spectrum. "And they're even worse in Seattle. They're crazies downtown." We were talking about smoking and it was unclear who the denizens of downtown Seattle were worse than and in what fashion. Those comments were courtesy of a legit Joe On The Street, though, so whatever he meant we're taking it to heart. On the other hand you have the established punditocrasy of the right embodied by wanna-be Joe On The Streets like Jonah Goldberg who recently had a few things to say about our enclave:

There are so many things to love about Turkey: it's juicy and delicious, always reminds us of the holidays, and is a truly versatile meat. What's that you say---there's also a country by that name? We suppose that would be alright too, though probably not as tasty. Yes, today's the beginning of TurkFest 2005, "a cultural festival celebrating all things Turkish." Activities including traditional music and dance, a photography exhibit, and (good God) shadow puppetry will be held at Seattle Center's Center House on Saturday and Sunday, noon-7pm. But tonight and Friday the festivities begin with four films:
