For the second year in a row, a legendary coach has ended his career with a loss at Qwest Field.

Not sure we've ever seen a win for which the credit belongs so overwhelmingly to the defense. For most of the game, the Seahawks' defensive line was able to get pressure with only four rushers. By establishing that, they were able to drop guys back into coverage, which led to the two pick sixes.

This fall we are combining our love of the football and our dream of learning to cook. On Sunday morning, following a trip to a local farmer's market/major supermarket chain, we will be preparing a meal from the city of the Seahawks opponent. Then at halftime we will throw our badly burned hands in the air and make hot dogs.

On Saturday the beloved Seahawks will play the Redskins in the opening round of the NFL Playoffs. Taking up the issue on whether or not the Hawks will lose are author Pauls Toutonghi, marketing genius Jason McDonald, and comedy festival standout Dusty Warren.

The emerging storyline of Sunday's NFC Championship game is whether the Seahawks defense can stop the Panthers' Steve Smith. The buzz about Smith strikes us as familiar--he's a small-statured receiver who is the focal point of his team's offense--a brash, competitive player who runs reverses, breakout screens, and catches long passes.

As always when leading up to a big playoff game, the local papers are filled with human interest fluff. At the Times, exclusively fluff. Like "Veterans get Hawks in playoff mindset" and "Seahawks battling history as well as Washington." At the P-I, and on some internet sites, a few pieces of actual game analysis managed to sneak past the editors.

4th down and six. Here's the game, folks. Redskins down six and driving with three minutes to play.

The Cougar men are for real. They beat the Huskies Saturday night, but it didn't feel like an upset to us. It felt like a pretty good team getting some timely shooting and capitalizing on foul trouble (Brandon Roy's) to beat another pretty good team. The Huskies are 1-2 in Pac-10 play. Not encouraging. But the renaissance of WSU basketball is good for the state. We could have three state teams in the tournament this year.

Being a Seattle sports fan on Sunday afternoons used to mean a forced trip to Ikea. We mean, what was the other option, catching the Seahawks on TV? Even as the Seahawks slowly improved the past few years, they were no fun to watch, as they blew games and went on late season losing streaks. It was enough to make us want to smash our brand new Flurkten (which we put together ourselves, thank you very much).

The game isn't good enough anymore. It's not good enough that on Sunday, in Maryland, 90 of the best athletes on the planet, guys who were the best player in the history of their high school, guys who if you tried to tackle them would run through you like you were a notion, guys who can run faster and jump higher and lift more than anyone you've ever known, will recklessly bash into each other in order to win a football game.

It’s not the best time to be a Seattle sports fan right now. Sure the Sonics were able to re-sign Vladimir Radmanovic for the upcoming season. However, we are a bit worried that he turned down six years $42 million in order to be an un-restricted free agent at the end of next season, but right now we will take what we can get.
